I was getting the check gas cap message and all the readiness monitors had passed except for the evap readiness. Eventually the car gave I believe a P0455 error code. I replaced the gas cap and cleared the codes. The gas cap message has come back. I did a smoke test through one of the tubes at the purge valve. I had expected a bad hose around the canister (based on other forum messages), but smoke come pouring out at the rear passenger (RT) springs. I'm new to smoke testing and only applied smoke to one of the tubes. Is this normal, or what should I check? I couldn't tell if any smoke was coming out near the canister in the back as so much was coming from the spring area. This is a 2002 XK8 convertible (NA).
Sounds like a failed (open) CCV or piping for EVAP monitor.
To do a proper CCV test you need to have the CCV closed.(it is open at the 'filter' at the end of the pipe in the spring/damper mount hole)
WDS/IDS can do this for up to 30 minutes while leak tests are being performed.
The gas cap on the 99 is excluded from testing in Georgia. For some reason, it is not standard and will usually fail. Most testers do not know this and you need to discuss it with them.
Tennessee quit smog testing, so technically I'm not required to fix the issue. I recently bought the vehicle from someone in Ga, which I now suspect they sold it since they couldn't get it to pass testing (they never registered the vehicle).

You can manually block the pipe at the CCV?
Thanks for the reply. I don't have a WDS/IDS setup. I can see about blocking the pipe. For now I have given the garage space where I can work back to the wife.
There seems to be some parts confusion with the CCV. In looking for a replacement CCV some sites list the LJC1525AC as superseeding LJC1525AB. When I look up the part LJC1525AC with other vendors, it is listed as a pressure valve and the picture does not match. I've also download parts lists information from jagrepair, but the CCV isn't listed. Are there really two different parts that have the same part number? I left a message with one of the Jaguar parts places regarding this matter, but I haven't heard back, perhaps due to the holidays.
Thanks, I had looked at those and had ordered the pipe assembly referenced off eBay (NJC6107EA). I noticed this time there was a reference to 303-46 which gives the part number for the CCV as LJC1525AB. I assume that LJC1525AC is a revision. So the sites listing it as a pressure valve must be incorrect. Just not clear what they would actually send.
I now have the LJC1525AC CCV which I ordered from Terry's. Wow they ship fast. I had purchased some 3/4 fuel hose from the local auto parts store. However, the 3/4 (18mm) hose seems to slip on quite easy on to the ccv port. Apparently the hose on the NJC6107EA pip assembly is 18mm ID. I'm not sure if the hose going from the CCV to the canister is actually bad, but thought it would be a good idea to change at the same time. I prefer to not mess with it again. Should I get an 18mm hose instead for the short stub? I'm concerned that the hose clamps won't be quite enough to get a good seal.
