Following a advisory from my recent MoT, I've been trying to find and purchase the lower tie of the front suspension wishbone.Photograph attached. (apologies for not naming the part correctly). I've looked on SNG Barratt's web site parts list and it only lists the upper part as a separate item. Does this mean that the part I require is not sold as a separate item? If it is sold could some more knowledgeable member A, tell me the name of the part, B, it's parts code, (if possible), and C, where I could purchase TWO. Looking at the wishbone or rather moving the the lower tie. (ps that is rainwater not oil showing wet).
, it is the bush on the hub end that has a little movement is this bush replaceable if the whole tie is not available?
Hi curlycat,
That is the rear lower control arm Jaguar calls it a lower wishbone). They are available separately, but are horrendously expensive new. Forum sponsor SNG Barratt has them for just under 600 euros each. They are handed, so the part #s are JLM21304 and JLM21305: https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#...rnedDown=false
'Reconditioned' are also available for around 150-200 euros.
Why are you needing to replace - bushings and ball joints can be replaced on the lower wishbone although as michaelh states - the ball joint is a pain due to the angled end. I did the job myself - took some time but once I got the right tool (20ton press) I was able to install the ball joints and put everything back together
Thank you both.
Questions give answers, answers give more questions.
I had looked at Barrett's parts list and saw that the control arm is not listed as a part but did see the upper wishbone ball joint listed (JLM21380), but not a ball joint for the control arm.
Am I to assume that it is the same part for both? Also I'm assuming they are not handed? (2 to be ordered). I'll also order 2 lower wishbone bushes at the same time.

Thank you both.

Hi Ron - the link in my post #2 will take you to SNG's listing.
The control arms are in the catalogue, although with different part #s:
I'm not sure where these numbers come from as they're not recognised by the Heritage site, although other vendors are also quoting them.
Replacing the whole item is a very expensive route.

Curlycat; Get in touch with Jim Staub at 480-203-8091. He has a web page at (shop@soughtout1.net). He also sells on ebay. I have purchased many parts from him for my '99 XK and never been disappointed. His prices are very fair and the quality of his used parts is excellent. No need to buy new.

Thank you all again for the advice given. Acting on it I've looked up the control arm from SNG, Welsh, and FCP Euro, and as pointed out there is a huge difference in price, and Welsh win hands down. But (there's always a but), The control arm from Welsh is quite a different shape and has extra holes. I've attached the two images. Has anyone used the Welsh part? if so did it fit ok? Any idea as to the extra holes in the Welsh part?
Hi Ron,
The Welsh part is - I *think* - for the X308 (XJ8). The FCPEuro is the correct one, although it looks somewhat different at the ball joint end - unless Jaguar has relented and changed the machining to provide a flat surface to allow the ball joint to be pushed more easily.
I would still consider whether there is an engineering works near you that would take on replacement of the ball joint. A new joint and bushing is only around €70.
WOW That hurts. the XJ8 control arm from Welsh is 145$ (£105). The control arm for the XK8 is 725$ (£528)!!! shorly it's a simpler casting? where is the logic in that? SNG's is only £490. Guess I'll be fitting new ball joints and bushes. Now to find them through your links. Thank you all.
They are machined forgings, I think.
I assume either market forces or creative pricing determines why one would be twice the price of the other given their similarity.
Hi Michaelh. I have looked at the FCP list and all the parts I need are there (& in my basket), but there is a conflict. When I look at the parts description for the lower ball joint 1350AA the orange box states 'this part does not fit' click on the box to see which models it does fit & my 2002 XK8 is there! Any ideas as to why there is this discrepancy? I have checked my vehicle listing in my Profile & it's correct. Should I be concerned about the orange box?
much confused Ron C.
Hey; I would call the supplier. It may have something to due with the vin number. Jaguar may have changed the part in mid production. Just a thought
Good Luck
Mitch
^^ +1
Ho hum.
Understand the confusion. I can find seven different part numbers for the rear lower control arms. The latest supersession in both JEPC and the Jaguar Heritage website shows JLM21305 for the LHS. Searching on that number, several suppliers show MJB1341AC as the latest variant, but it is not recognised by Heritage, so I have no idea where it comes from??
Similarly, the ball joint MNC1350AA *looks* like a valid Jaguar part number - but, again, not recognised by Heritage and Jaguar can't or won't sell one to you?? If you want the joint, you buy it with the arm already attached at eye-watering cost.
Aside from the above, many have successfully done this job, so the aftermarket items must fit. The ones I have are Borg & Beck branded, # BBJ5572.
