Default Xkr 4.2

I have recently bought a 2003 XKR 4.2 2003.. After spending hours looking through threads .Are they really so fragile?
They all seem to rust away much earlier than other modern cars.
After running a BMW 530d and an Air cooled Porsche It appears that they constantly need fixing.

Please tell me I am wrong..

+2..... Yep agreed you are wrong. Like anything you have to look after it & for that you will get many Miles of driving pleasure. No disrespect to the XK owners but the "R" is a bit special as you will no doubt experience. You omitted to say how many miles the car has covered, there are a few bits and bobs you should take care of if you want to keep her running sweet. TS

Mine has quite high mileage 101000. Its had all new suspension parts . new disks and brakes, and thousands of £s spent on other bits and bobs looking at the invoices, a coolant flush on every one? . New Oxygen sensors and came with 12 months MOT .Full Service history.

What do I need to keep an eye on

Thanks bob

I've had a couple aircooled 911s and they are the best for reliability, but it's not a fair comparison as they are VERY simple cars with only an engine ECU.

Some car forums are low on DIY and high on LOOK AT MY CAR. Easy to think on those forums that the cars suffer few faults. Here there are some very helpful DIY fixers so you could easily think the cars have endless faults....

The first job was Oil & Filter (so now i have a reference date)
2) Changed the oil in the supercharger (that was fun)
3) Wheels off good check all tyres for splits / cracking on the inner wall
4) Clean out the calipers of dust (mask essential), check wear (pad & disc)
5) Fuel Filter replaced & look at all the rubbers while your under there
6) Grease the 2 drive shafts, check for any fluid leaks around the Diff hsg
7) Replace the air filter, spray the MAF with MAF Cleaner & Clean out the throttle body with correct cleaner
8) Headlamp misting - 25mm hole in the top plastic inspection plate (both)
9) Supercharger belt replaced
10) Hoses topside & lower down for any degrading (top 2 wear on the hood pad)
11) Exhaust....Splits or holes & hangers or dodgy repairs !!
12) Inside the car...I cleaned & greased the seat tracks (both)

Mostof the above were done when I was with the car going through its service and MOT.( Not sure about oil change on Supercharger)
The dealer did show me a quick fix with the headlight misting. Put a damp towels over outside of lens, open inspection plate and put lights on for 15 min
Close plates and misting has gone. Not come back in over a week
