Range Rover’s SV Coupe is Incredibly Expensive, But Is It Worth It?
A new bar for luxury SUVs has been set with the Range Rover SV Coupe.
In this video, we get to look around the new Range Rover SV Coupe at the New York International Auto Show courtesy of YouTube channel superspeedersRob. Much as we enjoyed seeing a tour of the SV Coupe, we are also captivated by the patience of the PR people dealing Rob Ferretti’s obnoxious attempts at being glib and funny. It takes a special class of patience to let it go and keep answering the questions.
As for the SV Coupe itself, only 999 of these $295,000 limited edition machines are to be made available. Most curiously, Range Rover has decided to make it as a coupe. That suggests to us that Land Rover knows the market for a two-door luxury SUV is limited, but enough people will love the look of coupe design matched to the high-end materials and workmanship that go into the interior. Not that this is the first Range Rover to come with two doors and a hatch at the back. The very first Range Rover came with that exact configuration.
The SV Coupe is definitely not a return to Range Rover’s utilitarian roots though, although it still the advance ability to go off-roading a Range Rover owner could expect. The exterior is pretty much all new bodywork to get that new take on the Range Rover’s road presence. Inside is a testament to the beauty and comfort of quilted leather and real wood. Customers can even choose to have a contrasting light and dark front/rear seat color combination. Now, that may be something that doesn’t sound good on paper but we love how it looks in the video and pictures.
It’s billed by Land Rover as “the world’s first full-size luxury SUV coupe,” and definitely has the interior as well as exterior to back that statement up. Also, let’s not forget that under the hood is the Range Rover’s most powerful engine so far. A supercharged 5.0-liter V8 forcing out 557 horses and 516 lb-ft of torque, and capable of pushing the SV Coupe to 60 mph in just 5 seconds. That makes it not just the worlds first full-size luxury SUV coupe, but also Range Rover’s fastest full-size SUV to date.
