Default black "R" badges

Would it be a bad idea to replace my round, chrome oem "R" Badging with the older type black ones as seen here?

I don't see round black ones available. I dig em but I'm sure some feel the style is dated. The other option is to just remove altogether. Let me know, I've got my dental floss in hand and a few hours of daylight left.

I think I'll get opinions first this time.

Given the overall look you seem to be going for id go with all black. The red accent one with black lettering would work OK with the red exhaust tips I suppose. I'd probably just remove it. If they don't know by looking at it that it's a R then they don't deserve to be told

Wouldn't go old school R. I would go with the circle R that is mostly black. Or as I suggested in my reply on your mod thread, I'd find out where the guy who made his look like an Aston got his. They were subtle, but cool. If you retain any of the red, on the badge, you might think about that as a unifying color for calipers and tips.

He removed his rear and has a chrome black monotone in front with a chrome black center.

I may just remove it altogether.

Although I don't have an F-type R, I do have an XKR. And when I went to replace the front grill emblem (the old style black, green, and red one), I thought about using the newer round R emblem, but I don't like it as much, so I went with the old. However, Chris at Mina Gallery, has a beautiful red on black R emblem which is very high quality porcelain (or resin) on steel that I got from him for my hub caps, but they can be used just as an emblem. I think they would highlight your red exhaust tips very well. Attached is a photo of the emblem on my wheels. The chrome surround is not part of the emblem which just fits into that carrier. I think you might like this as it's different but very classy. (double click on it to expand and get a closer look)

I like that. Are the center caps and the front emblem the same diameter?

Not to crazy about the lugs being red or the lettering on the spoke but the center cap is workable.

I'll measure them after I get out of an appointment tonight and I'll report back. I would guess they will be a bit larger diameter. He also has another emblem that reads,"R Performance." I put these on the side skirts toward the back wheels signifiying (at least justifying in my own mind) the fact that I had the pulley and tune done on my 5.0L engine. You might like these instead of the round emblem. They are very high quality, heavy gauge, just beautiful.

I think all black or delete is only thematically-appropriate mod for your car.

Default What is the determining factor...

on whether your car gets red or black emblem treatment (grill and wheels).

Mine came red but after running a Google search for "F-Type R front" I look at the results and see some in red some in black. It looks random across color of car too. I initially thought the R version came with red badging but apparently that isn't quite the case in all years. Is it a year thing? A factory color thing? A whatever Jag had laying around at the time thing?

And by the way if anyone's car came with the black emblem set and would be interested in trading for a red "R" set, I may strongly consider taking you up on a trade.

PM me.

Hey TBERG, I measured the grill emblem and it looks to be about an inch bigger in diameter than the wheel caps. You should order one more emblem from Mina and center it in your grill and post a picture. Use a temporary double side tape without using the emblems tape to keep the item new and returnable. If it looks good centered on your car, I will go for the whole package myself. If it doesn't, you can just send yours back and Ill opt for a black growler set.

Since you have the wells done already and like them this would be the logical step for you to take, huh? If you're not feeling the idea, I can order one and post for you but I felt you were almost there already. Heres a mock up of what it might look like.

I might just try that. I live only minutes from Mina, and I think I'll stop and pick up a couple more of the emblems. If you PM your address, I'll send you one so you can experiment with it. My car goes into the shop next week when I'm out of town to re-install my repaired front splitter as well as a few other maintenance issues, so it might be a good time to try it out.

I forgot you have to shave off the wheel clips to get it flat. You're not going to be able to get a good look without destroying the emblem. Ill cost us $10 bucks to get a good look. I have everything to get it smooth and some silicone so yea send me one, although I'll prob end up needing five.

Ill PM you my addr.

The actual emblem comes as a flat (about 1/8" thick) disc that is applied to a hub cap but which can be used as anything you want. I will pick up a couple in the next few days, and I'll send you one to play with.

Ahh - Is the chrome ring part of the hubcap plate edge or the emblem itself?

So the chrome I'm seeing is the hubcap then. Ask Chris if he has the hubcap in both black and chrome. That ring of chrome I guess wouldn't be a deal breaker though.

I will ask when I'm there probably tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise I'm sure they can be painted. Do you want gloss black or matte?
