Cutting off muffler

Cutting off muffler
Assuming everything is stock, would it be a good idea to chop off the muffler box, leave the resonators as is, for a louder sounds?
The goal is to reach a higher loudness without inducing drone.
Right now I have the whole muffler/resonator assembly off, stock cat on, the sound level is pretty much where I want it to be. The tune is surprisingly not that raspy, I'd even consider it deeper compared to stock. But the drone is definitely not pleasant to say the least.
I'm mostly concerned about the stock resonator design, it has perforations to allow gas to escape, but without an enclosure, would it even work, or worse yet, sound like an exhaust leak?
I don't think I will get a certain answer but I will try it anyways, back up plan would be bolting two bullet style resonators on and if that fails, back to stock
Looks like a space ship without the tips😁
I did record before and after clips, but unfortunately iphone is unable to pick up the difference in sound, cold start sounded the same in the video, and drone is not picked up at all.

Between all the snows we got and a frozen hose, it won't be clean any time soon!
I don't think I have mentioned a cat delete..the stock cat is on the car right now, soon to be replaced with a VAP 200 cell, and the muffler is the one getting the treatment.

They are Pirelli SottoZero 3 winter in 255/35, 295/30 r20, pretty much the only one available in stock fitment through my search.
They have got me through 1 and a half winter so far, I'd say they are brilliant in dry cold, great on slush with full tread, okay on slush half worn, useless on fresh unplowed snow(probably not the tires fault, more of its width and physic).

Ray, I see those tires suggested in my Jag handbook but when I try to find them on -line, dealer sites indicate thy do not fit (or might mean- not available).
Since I do not nee to or plan to drive in snow/ice but would like dry Winter road options, I think I am going with Potenza RE980AS all-season tires.
They are readily available at about $1200/set for the 2021 R-Dynamic.

2021 have wider 20'' rims and tires compared to pre 2020, 0.5inch wider rim and 10mm wider tires to be exact, front and rear.
the 255/295 tires will fit fine on the 2021 rims, but people generally go for +10mm instead of -10mm for aesthetic and performance concern.
You will find many forum members with 265/305 r20 on pre 2020 9.0/10.5inch R20 rims.
All that aside, availability is a factor you can't ignore and often times have to compromise on.

Well after uploading to youtube and playing the clips on better speakers, there's actually quite some difference, hear for yourself.
200 cell cat clip will be coming soon, probably with the modified muffler, stay tuned.
Sound level is louder in the stock video probably due to phone placement, but you can hear the difference in tune easily, its deeper with the muffler assembly removed.

The muffler and resonator delete definitely sounds deeper and better but the volume on the recording makes it harder to do a real comparison since volume is a big factor in a quality exhaust sounds. How much louder is it than before? I had a Supercharged V8 RR and deleted the resonator and it sounded awesome but it was kind of too loud after a while for me.
As far as I can tell, it sounds much better without the muffler and resonator.

And thinking of it, it is actually not THAT much louder than stock. Scale 1-10, if stock is loudness 6, muffler delete is loudness 7-8. But that's talking about the overall volume, without the muffler, low rpm/low gas is literally 5x louder than stock, while high rpm high gas might only be 1.5x difference(honestly both just feels "loud" to me at higher rpm).
Thinking of it, I'm strongly suspecting the OEM muffler resonator assembly targets lower rpm noise, volume and drone specifically, and yes it is definitely too loud for daily use. I might not mess with it after all, I haven't even installed the 200 cell cats that's supposedly going to make it 20-30% louder! Appointment is set on Friday, we will see.

I got more clips, I literally put my phones into the exhaust cutout in the rear bumper, but stock still sounds louder than muffler delete???
I also removed all trim pieces in the trunk in chase of a suspension clunking(recently installed lowering springs), surprisingly it eliminated a lot of the drone in drive, maybe stripped interior with straight pipes will be the ultimate combo, one day
Also question, would dynamat-ing the underside of the trim pieces have the same effect as dynamat-ing the metal chassis part? If it does, would be a lot easier since they are already out the car and no cut outs to work around!

Sounds great..... I've been looking at aftermarket exhaust and some of them appear as though they removed the pre-muffler resonator and redesigned the active exhaust so that it's a straight pipe when it's fully opened. Basically what you've done but probably saved about $2k and got the same results.
