Getting 8% off the MSRP for 2017 MY. Is it reasonable ?
Hi guys ...
First of all, I'm sorry if I'm asking to many questions on this message board. I sincerely appreciate the replied I've gotten thus far. Let me be clear, I really hope I can get the R Type coupe but if it doesn't happen because dealer will not give me a FAIR discount, I'll walk away . my back up car is a new Porsche 911 GTS because its the last of the naturally aspirated motor by Porsche. They are shrinking the engine and adding turbo to the motor. This setup will be no different than a VW Beetle motor with the sound. Not good ! Based on your csr buying & ordering experience, do you guys think me requesting a discount of 8% is good, is it realistic ? Am I being fair with my request ? The MSRP for the car I wish to order is $110,000.
Your opinion & thoughts are apprecuated. Thanks .

Will they allow me to join if I don't current own a Jag ? The membership application askscwhat type of Jag do you own. Asks for the car's details, color etc ...
Thank you!
Thank you!
Join as soon as you can, it took them several weeks to respond. And then several more to get the membership card. So you are probably looking a July or August for yours to be 6 months. I joined in October and won't be 6 months for me till April, and I have to renew my membership in January.
Invoice is roughly 6% below MSRP and JLR doesn't offer holdback to their dealerships, so most are unlikely to offer 8% off MSRP, especially on a new model year vehicle. You may be able to get 5% if you're using a buying service like True Car to help, and as others have stated, you can get a $2,500 rebate from JLR for being a Jag club member for 6 months before picking up the keys.
It is all guesswork since your price will depend on local dealerships, and how incentivized they are to sell in volume, but based on my own negotiating experience and the research I did when I bought my 2016 MY at the beginning of the sales season last year, most dealerships will try to sell at MSRP initially, and you won't start seeing the deeper discounts until the cars have been out for a while. However, despite that, getting 3-5% on a 2017 should be doable with enough negotiation. You should not have any issues getting 8% (or maybe even better) on a 2016 MY if you can find one that you like.
If you're custom ordering, you can aim for 8% but I suspect you'll come in right below 5% unless you're also working some kind of trade-in or financing deal that allows them to make up the profit on the total sale in some other way.
If you manage to get 8% before the JLR rebate money, please let us know so we can use that as a reference.

Jaguar Sales Report
Below is the brief report on Jaguar's sales titled...
Jaguar Continues to Fail in US Market
Jaguar sold 1,065 cars in the United States during November, down 15% from the same month of last year. For the first 11 months, sales were off 5.8% to 13,269. In the luxury end of the American car market, Jaguar has been the most visible failure.
As a contrast to Jaguar's lack of success, luxury market leader Mercedes had sales of 335,246 up 5.1%, in the first 11 months. BMW followed close with sales of 311,398 for the same period, up 4.4% year on year.
One of Jaguar's problems is a lack of models. Jaguar has four: the XE, XF, XJ and F-Type. These will be joined by the F-Pace SUV next year. The XE, with a starting price of $34,900, is in one of the most competitive parts of the market. These cars are meant to bring in younger drivers by offering a low price point. BMW, Mercedes, Audi and even Cadillac also have models at this level. Put another way, the field is crowded.
The XF, with a base price of $51,900, and XJ at $74,400 are also in parts of the luxury market with several competitors. The XF's four-wheel-drive model and advanced electronics have nothing distinctive that is not offered by other cars in its class. Its highest end horsepower car does not have an engine any more powerful or efficient than any other.
The flagship F-Type has been described as one of the best luxury sports coupes in the world. However, its sales are so modest that they cannot pull the overall brand out of its ditch:
For Jaguar, sales hit 1,065 units, down 15 percent for the month. The growth leader in November was the Jaguar F-TYPE which has it best November sales month with 432 units sold, up 15 percent versus 377 in November 2014.

Do you guys think this sales report from JAGUAR will help me in my negotiation for discounting the 2017 R coupe. Notice the information regarding the F Type coupe. Sales are way off according to Jaguar USA.
If you read carefully, you will see that F-Type sales are actually up vs the other Jag models. However, given the minuscule number of F-Types being produced, any sales increase would be insufficient to offset the sales decline of the other models. Deep discounts are likely on the other models, not their rising star.
It will depend on your local dealerships, stock levels, and your negotiation skills of course, but I'd think you should be able to get anywhere from 5% to 10% off MSRP on an in-stock 2016 model at this point.
AFAIK, there isn't really much, if any, differences between the 2016 and 2017 models on the F-Type, so a 2016 is probably the better deal. You just lose the option to custom order the specific build you like.
