Please tell us that you only use your iPad in the car when it is parked. Please....

I’d like to know too. Google maps goes into awesome detail, for example, telling you which lane to be in to make an exit.

Default Phone / iPad Mount

I have been looking for a solution to mount my phone. The interior does not lend itself for what I would call elegant solutions.
  • Suction cup windshield mounts are not suitable as most of them don’t have extension arms long enough or don’t articulate appropriately.
  • Affixing a suction cup base via adhesive disks directly on the leather dash area offends me more than I can explain.
  • Vent mounted holders are a non-starter due to the vents auto retraction feature. Side vents do not allow for proper viewing and would be in the way of using the steering wheel.
  • Center console has no real estate that allows for a suction cup install.
  • Cup holders are too far behind the drivers field of vision to be useful and would constantly be in the way of my elbow.
  • Affixing a suction cup holder on the center information screen, while secure, in a good viewing area and out of the way, will render the screen unusable. Not an option.
My only idea was to use a clamp attachment for a Ram-Mount on the grab handle for the passenger. I ordered the parts to do this, but after installing them I decided this was not as good an idea as I had thought. It looked poorly thought out and the clamp had to be tightened down so forcefully that I worried about long term damage / scarring of the leather on the grab handle. (I’ll shoot photos if anyone wants to see the set-up)

The only solution I can give would be perhaps a thigh / kneeboard like pilots use that attaches to the thigh. The viewing angle would not be ideal, but it would make it hands free and keep it from falling all over the place during pleasurable driving maneuvers.

If anyone would like to use the Ram-Mount -grab handle idea I have the parts for sale!

Phone mount has been done to death, just search for the thread rather than creating a new one

for iPad. You can use two scosche magic mounts to mount the screen on the panel above the inbuilt screen by attaching to mounting magnets to the back of your iPad case, alternatively you can get gooseneck iPad holder presumably as short as possible so it’s not bouncing everywhere.
Or just screen mirror to a aftermarket UAD CarPlay adapter.

I made some prototypes but still unsure, so looking to collect ideas (or steal ) a good concept.

Main issue, screen resolution, size and software is inferior and looks dated. (mine a 2015) so idea is have a tablet above with a mechanism that rises tablet and reveals buttons/screen stock unit.

Req:
Design good for a future carbon fiber mold
Automatic hinge (magnetic for now)
Base completely flush to look "almost" stock with new car trends of floating screens

Progress:

magnets with rotated pole in middle to help lift, works ok but not there yet.

some improvements and this time print with resin

This looks amazing. I will be happy to help print parts if needed as I know the printing portion takes the longest or provide you with filament!

Hey...Very cool work! Given there are now, quite a number of F-Types, and most everyone would like some upgrade...It is a shame someone does not make something like this for the F-Types. I just put this in my Ford Raptor recently and it is soooo much better than the crappy Ford SYNC3 that was in there...It even has a CanBus decoder so all factory options and steering wheel controls work...And Climate controls are now digital and built in to the UI. Maybe someone will decide it is worth making one!?

Thanks but did print in resin. When is finalized I can share the files to you print to yourself.

Progress:
After several designs to select best for CF molding, choose this one, some fast s*** paint and some vhb tape to check if I could still access buttons and see stock screen:

Next:
-Make mold and make CF get parts, measure it and adjust design to thickness
-Think how and where place motor, would be cool lift up down with a IR sensor or soft touch for the up/down or in reverse for the camera.

I will test with back layer of Kevlar to check if works on reducing layers when applied on CF twill back. I plan to make other parts as the front grill.
