Default Joining the F-Type crew

So - finally took the plunge over the summer and joined the F-Type crew! I bought a 2017 SVR - ammonite grey with full red leather interior. Loving it! Like several of you, moving up from an XF (2010 XF V8 SC) - which I'm keeping too

Photo attached and I'll post more soon. Been a busy summer so not been on here much

A few initial questions for the group
1) trunk parcel shelf - has a plastic hinge on the left but not on the right. Can't find the part number - looks like they come with the parcel shelf. Any way to get one separately?
2) plastic fuel cap (not the metal door but the cap on the neck) is almost impossible to twist off. And has to be jammed on really hard to get it in. Possible it has been replaced with the wrong part? Known issue?
3) passenger footwell I noticed right down under the glove box (where passenger toes would be pointing) is exposed - if you crouch down you can see wiring, pipes, etc. shouldn't there be a carpet cover over that (or is it out of sight so not covered)?

I have the dreaded 'battery low' draining issue after it went for inspection. Disconnecting and reconnecting battery fixed it - but only after I totally drained it...

Thanks!

1) You are probably correct that the hinges only come with the panel. I’ll check into it.
2) My gas cap is also difficult to insert or remove when it is warm outside (85+ degF). Not usually an issue, but this summer has been warmer than blazes.
3) correct, no panel covering bits and wires under the glovebox.

If it’s the pin portion of the hinge you are looking for, this is it: https://parts.jaguarreno.com/oem-par...Y4LWdhcw%3D%3D
If you are looking for the slotted bracket that mates with the pin, that appears to be a part of the privacy cover.

Red interior with ammonite should be spectacular - congrats!

Thank you both. Yes - it looks stunning. I wasn't sure about red at first but it's terrific!

Thanks Unhingd as always for the great intel. Yes, it's the black slotted plastic piece attached to the panel - not the pin. That's frustrating if I can't replace it as the shelf rattles when driving as it's just sitting on top. Anyone have any ideas??

On the gas cap, I carefully wiped the inside and out, tried again but still has to be literally forced in. I can only imagine it's the wrong cap or has got damaged. Guess I will replace it...

I'm with you on the Red. When I first saw my car at the dealer, I walked away after opening the door. It was waaaay too much Red for me. After a little time, I kept coming back and grew to really love it.

I think unhinged or one of our other members wrapped the pins with electric tape to stop the rattle. I have a few rattles going and this fix is on my to do list. Hope it kills one of the rattles. Beautiful color. I have red/black interior and have not regretted it.

Why not just take out the shelf until you get the replacement part?

Welcome and bravo. What a vehicle. I am not classless enough to ask how much you paid, but passively, i am absolutely classless enough to ask that. I am quite interested in depreciation on this car. Of course, I'll look it up so you don't have to reveal your negotiating secrets. =) A guy in a VW Golf screamed up by my side on the freeway and was happily shouting "I AM GOING TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE. MANUAL. I AM JUST WAITING FOR DEPRECIATION ON 2016s" lol. I love that this car inspires people across all walks and interests... ie it even crosses over to the Japanese import and rally crews. pretty cool. But that SVR is on another level. Cheers to you and have fun.

The OP seems to be missing that bracket entirely on one side. Wrapping the pin with a whole roll of duct tape won’t help any.

Agreed.
Looks like the OP has no choice but to buy a new cargo cover, $633.75 US from Reno Jag, see here: https://parts.jaguarreno.com/oem-par...bC12Ni1nYXM%3D

Unless he can get the seller to stump up for it which I reckon he should try for as missing this piece is a defect.

Thanks again everyone for the advice. Loving the SVR. What a car. Quick updates then a couple of questions:
- fuel filler cap, bought a replacement and it's perfect now. looks identical to the old one, so it wasn't the wrong part. Must have got distorted. Easy fix!
- cargo shelf - as you say, the bracket is part of the shelf. Held on with two rivets and not separable. Working with the selling dealer to see if they can replace else looking for a used parcel shelf to swap in or buy the bracket from a breakers and stick it back on. Fortunately doesn't impact operation

New questions:
1) switchable active exhaust button doesn't seem to do anything. How noticeable should it be eg at lower revs inside cabin? In general exhaust seems tame compared to the Mina on my V8 XF. when I press the button I can't hear any difference. (it is very loud when I first start the car). How do I check if the valves are sticking?
2) owners manual mentions two 'guide pins' to screw into lug nuts before removing wheels to avoid damage to carbon matrix brakes. Any idea where I find them? Wondering if missing
3) Steering feels either 'solid' or 'heavy'. When I drive the XF again it feels very light in comparison. Adjustable? I've not worked out the adjustable dynamics stuff yet

Thanks!

1) The real difference in sound is best heard under heavy load. Steady state cruising does not reveal a huge difference.
2) Never seen any such pins in my car. Might only be provided with the spare tire option.
3) Unless the dynamic steering has been turned off on the personalized dynamics setup, you should feel a difference in steering between normal mode and dynamic mode. Switching to dynamic mode will tighten the steering ratio making steering a bit twitchier and slightly stiffer.

According to my copy of the Workshop Manual (which has literally dozens of pages about the CCM brakes although I don't have CCM brakes!) the wheel guide pins are "in the vehicle tool kit". It says this at least 15 times but never once does it show you a pic of this elusive tool kit or where it is!
On my car the "vehicle tool kit" such as it is is made up of bits and pieces stuck in the polyurethane insert which sits in the inside rim of the space saver spare.
For those without a space saver I think the "tool kit" is under the cover in the hatch, next to the battery, again stuck in various slots and holes in polyurethane.
Of course the SVR may be completely different and who knows where the tool kit hides on one of them!
If you can't find your guide pins there are plenty of generic ones with the correct thread on Fleabay.

Nup.
They are "needed" only for those cars with CCM brakes so as to help prevent damage to the (massively expensive) rotor when removing or replacing a wheel, so in theory they are included in the tool kit only on cars with CCM brakes.

Hi - just wanted to report back on these various questions on my SVR

- fuel filler cap must have got distorted. Replaced with a new one (not expensive) and it works perfectly
- rear parcel shelf hinge is an integral part of the shelf. Riveted on so can't be replaced as a piece. Dealer kindly replaced entire parcel shelf for free as part of my CPO. And it has removed an annoying rattle over bumps!
- I had the active exhaust button checked. I can't hear any difference from inside the car but dealer assured me it works as intended (they did say they have had a lot with the exhaust valves sticking but mine is fine). I guess louder under load or standing behind the car!
- the 'guide pins' for the carbon matrix wheels are in that polystyrene insert under the trunk floor. Photo below

Also I had very bad rattling on the rear speakers and a bit on the one in the drivers door near the mirror. They applied the sound insulation / dampening fix and updated the amp. 90pc better now - rear right still rattled a bit with base (will ask them to look again) but the rest are perfect now
