Default Power tailgate module location

Does any know where the power tailgate module is located? Its currently not working and I think my module might be dead. I’ve tried resetting it by holding the button, disconnecting my battery for 30+ seconds, fully opening/closing and trying every variation. The button unlocks and I can manually opening. If I manually close it, I can take it to a certain point and it will lower and close itself so it’s “working” to a certain degree.

I’d rather not have to take it the dealer and was thinking I could replace the module with a used one for a lot less than taking it in for them to diagnose. TIA

Your wish is my command, it is shown on pages 21944 and 21945 of my copy of the Workshop Manual, item # 7 in the attached PDFs (first one shows what it looks like and where it is, second one shows the name).

Thank you so much. I’m going to order the part and see if that fixes it. Will report back here in case anyone else has a power tailgate issue and wants to avoid the dealership or repair shop.

That's the "soft close" which works even on cars (mine!) that don't have the powered tailgate.

You could prop up your hatch somehow and then disconnect the power struts from the hatch. Then actuate them normally to see if one or both have failed. It is possible because the hatch is so large that failure of one may render the other inadequate. Then at least if neither work you can try the module swap.

I ordered the module and it should arrive Monday but I'll give that a try this weekend first. Thank you for the advice.

Thanks for the PDFs. I removed the rear and side panels (just had to unbolt the side retainer and pulled the panels directly out) and it was easy to access the rear hatch control module to swap that piece out.

Previously while installing my negative ground quick disconnect, I accidentally sparked it and fried the trunk module and the rear hatch no longer went up and down on its own.

The module cost me about $100 on eBay for a used one and now everything works as it should.

LHS rear panel

I connected the new control module and tested everything before swapping them.
