Well I have to say I am extremely disappointed. Thought I found a pretty sweet deal on a low mileage 2014 v8 S with 30k miles. Got everything in place, even sold my existing toy. 2006 Cadillac XLR-V with 41.000 miles. Flew from Dallas to Miami. Upon inspection of the car it was a mess. I don’t think there was a panel on it that didn’t have a scratch, ding, or some kind of a rub mark on it. It was so bad I didn’t even make a counter offer. Didn’t even think about driving it. Just told him thank you, but NO. Now I am sitting in the airport with a high priced fare to get back home tonight. The search continues, and now my garage is empty.
Wow, perhaps next time be a little more pinpointed in your questions before going through the hassle I guess…Just to get a better sense of such things…Perhaps you did and they just misrepresented things, not sure…Hope not, I can imagine how annoying that would be…bah
Keep the faith. These are great cars if you find the right one…

In these situations I always get them to take it to a dealer for a Pre Inspection report. Ask for lots of pics. Pay for the cost of the inspection up front so the owner doesn't feel like you've wasted his time/money if you decide to walk.
The few hundred you may lose on a bad deal or a bad car is probably what you`re paying to go home anyways...price on peace of mind and all that.
I can certainly understand where you are coming from. I got multiple pics, and spoke with him for about 2 weeks. Every time asked is there anything wrong? He said, “the car is almost perfect. You will extremely pleased”. Only thing that needs to be done is that the hood needs to be realigned. That is an easy fix and since he disclosed that I thought he was being sincere about the condition of the car.

This is business as far as I'm concerned. Sincerity has no place, let the facts speak for themselves. 🙂
Oh man, feel really sorry for you. Thanks for sharing your frustration here and I hope you'll find a good example soon. You can get a pre inspection organised with the AAA equivalent over here for about £200. Not sure if you have that service readily avaliable in the States but that's an option if so.
Really pisses one off when you do ask all the questions, and are lied to!
Perhaps contact a member here who lives near where find your next F and see if that person would go check the car for you? I know I would do that around here in GreenBay/Oshkosh area of Wisconsin.
I've found over the years that you will get the car you want. Things happen for a reason. It means that one in Florida was not for you. Yours is still out there.
You are more than wise to go look at it in person. I know never say never, but I'm saying I would Never buy a car without putting my eyes on it and driving it.
Just found and bought a 3350 mile 2020 P300 coupe from Carmax in Ft. Myers. I wasn't looking for a high performance model as I already have a 2007 XKR convertible. They have numerous low mileage F-Type examples of all performance levels available nationwide. They were forthright and the car is impeccable. Over the years I've bought cars from dealers and private owners. I usually find that a later model car from a dealer is a safer bet. You may pay a bit more, but a large dealer is also more accountable in accessing the car honestly.

Thats a bummer, sorry you had that experience. I think like other folks have mentioned, pay for a PPI. The danger here is finding that sweet deal on an F-Type could cost you in a lot of ways.
Prices have dropped to the point where the cars can and will be abused more often by careless buyers. That's not just dings dents and such - I bet that car was not maintained either, so you probably lucked out. If it were shined up without dings but not maintained, you could be driving home in a ticking time bomb with 20k in work coming in a few months. It happens all the time.
Find a good car, be very careful about deals/low priced cars. These cars are all about care and maintenance, they do not suffer neglect well at all. Get a PPi. Look at the history - how many owners? Were they in an area that has flooded? Do they have maintenance receipts? Accident records, and if so what kind? Private owners are often a good way to go as you can call them up and talk to them.
It pays to up your budget, take your time, and find a well cared for car. Good luck!
Sorry to hear about your experience. I just purchased a 2016 convertible with 44,000 miles on Carvana. They provided a lot of photos as well as an included carfax report and their $150 point inspection. The photos look good as well as the Carfax showed a single owner in Texas with all servicing done at local JLR dealers so I felt pretty good about the purchase, since they offer 7-Day no questions asked return policy I pulled the trigger.
I picked the car up but they're Auburn Washington location and was very pleased with the results. The body was near perfect interior as well. I immediately took it to my local repair shop and they gave it a good thumbs up other than the brakes. Apparently carvana replaced the front brake pads but not the rotors and the rear is head only 2 mm left on the pads. I was able to get them to contact carvana insurance provider silverrock for approval for new pads and rotors all in all it cost $2,300 and it was completely covered by carvana.
So my point is that these online dealers like Carvana and CarMax do provide a good set of reports and documentation as well as a decent limited buyback guarantee, you may want to check them out for your purchase.
I appreciate all the kind responses. I am going to narrow my search down to a smaller range, something like a tank of gas. That is cheap therapy. lol. Probably increase my budget too. Anything that pops up outside that range I will have an independent inspection done. It is really sad to think that integrity is a difficult thing, but I guess some people still struggle with it. Starting to sound like my father. Not that that is a bad thing. Really want to focus on the RWD V8 cars. Just have to be patient, and the right one will come along.

Hang in there & keep looking. I had a 2005 C6 which is somewhat similar your XLR-V and I had a 2009 (Gen2) CTS-V with 650+ HP - just mentioning that to say I like my F-type better than those prior great cars. My 2015 V8s is a blast with plenty of torque and a great sound that continues to paint a smile every time I drive it.
I've had my F-Type 10-yrs now and had no problems whatsoever. I still have the original plastic cooling "y" pipe. Other than the 'sticky" buttons on the early models, I wholly recommend the RWD F-Type V8. The sticky buttons you can fix yourself with rubbing alcohol or make up remover - although a few trim pieces are best to just buy new replacements - all easy fixes for a 10-yr old car.
In other words, I would not be scared to buy a 2014 or 2015 model. The NAV system looks dated compared to the newer models but that does nothing to diminish the driving experience.
