Default Will JLR announce a 4-cylinder F-TYPE Coupe at the LA Auto Show?

Less than a week to go until the show. Will they fill out the expanded model range with a turbo 4?

I for one hope not...too soon.

I think the focus will be on AWD and a manual gearbox...

Making a 4-cyl f-type will result in a few more sales to people who couldn't afford the extra $10,000 for a 6 cylinder, but it will result in many more lost sales.

If I were jaguar I would dump the base model v6.

After reading the frustrations of members on this forum and their special orders and hearing that Jaguar’s low sales numbers are due mostly to lack of inventory available to dealers, it seems to me Jaguar needs to focus more on being able to deliver what they already produce in a timelier manner than adding more complexity to their model lineup. But what do I know?

Thank goodness you're not. That would have lost JLR even more sales.

I don't think they'll bring it to North America for a while. I think you'll see it in England/Europe first. It may never come here.

More likely other markets. For example you can already buy the XJ with the 2.0L engine in the Asian region, the F-Type will get it too for sure.

interesting point about foreign markets. I can see a 4 cyl in some european countries or asian, with their heavy taxes. I think Porsche has a special edition low power Boxtser for a few countries. But I don't see a new engine for North America. No demand for it here. 4 cycl = econo box. Would heavily damage the brand.

Could this be a 4 cylinder?

Sorry, I tried to post the link from YouTube but it has a four letter work starting with F in the address and will not post on this site. To view it you will have copy and paste the title below in YouTube

Jaguar testing a mysterious F-Type on the Nürburgring!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXgl_PT****

"In this video you can see an F-type being tested on the Nürburgring Nordschleife on the 11th of April 2014. It's wearing a F-type S jacket, but listen to that engine. It's clearly a smaller engine. Jaguar was also testing a V6 and V8 F-type on the Nordschleife the same day, which were much faster and had a much louder sound from both the intake and exhaust...."

Some of the press reports have said JLR will announce 12 F-TYPE models in the expanded range, but more of the ones I've read have said 14. 12 is easy to account for - the current range of six, plus AWD variants for each. But if it's 14, then what are the other two? I doubt they'd have separate model designations for the manual transmission - would that mean a manual would only be available with one type of engine? If the number is actually 14, that gives more credence to the possibility of a four-cylinder coupe and convertible.

Another possibility is that the current 6 models will also offer a manual transmission = 12 + only the S and R Coupes will be offered w/ AWD = 14. AWD doesn't make much sense to me in the convertibles.

Very cool, thanks. I like the condition that they all will post about their experience. Which forum will that thread be in?
