Default 420G high idle

Hi,
1967420G as of yesterday has very high idle......rev counter not active so can't be precise. However, higher and loader than when it normally starts with the choke. Reduces when I shift into gear but returns to high when in P or N.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

B

Have you done anything in the engine bay recently ? First off I would check the throttle cable is returning to the idle position fully.

Try disconnecting the cold start carburettor. I am assuming this high-revs idle continues even when the engine is warm ?

As your car is a US version, can you say what carburettors you have. I would expect there to be an automatic enrichment device, but US cars may be different. A photo might help.

If you look between the top and middle carbs you'll see the AED device with its aluminium-coloured strap with a lttle securing screw at the top. That device is switched electrically. You might care to consider removing the whole of the induction side and to dismantle the carbs and rebuild with a rebuild kit.

Vacuum Leak. Check manifold gaskets, especially to carb bodies.
