Default MK 2 speedo oil leak

Hi,
I have gear oil leaking out of the speedo driven gear brass housing and I see there is a seal inside but I am not sure on how to separate the brass housing to access the little seal. This is the housing that the speedo cable attaches to on the o/d unit.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.
Ted

You remove bolt 84 to extract the housing. There is an outer O ring which frequently leaks & is easy to replace & an inner seal that can be more of a challenge.

No, the thread in the pic is where the outer of the speedo cable is bolted up to the drive mechanism.

It threads into the barrel & is pinned. I only had to fix an O ring leak on my car. I have never replaced the inner seal. You might well be able to fiddle a new inner seal in without unpinning & unscrewing.

My car runs a 90 degree angle drive screwed onto this unit to the speedo cable.

Hi,
Would you have the part number for the inner seal?It is 3/4 o/d and 13/32 i/d.
Thank you.

That inner seal is not shown as separate in the parts manual. The manual shows the unit as speedometer drive assembly C11929 & only the external O ring as separately available, or 10866 ~ Bearing assembly for later units. There were multiple minor changes to the overdrive units fitted.

My car has the longer bush.

These damn bushes are expensive just for the sake of a new seal. I would drill out the pin. Disassemble the unit. Go in search of a new seal once you have a loose sample. Reassemble with new seal & re-pin/assemble with Loctite.
