Default 2003 S-Type-might buy one Sat. any ideas?

I just sold my BMW and I need a car. Looking sat. at a 2003 Stype, 74,000 miles. About 9-$10,000 asking. Any things I should look for that will cause me headache's in the future. I've always liked the look and have owned Jags in the past. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum.. and early congratulation on your future car

I just got my self an 05 STR... love it... (not too much on the black on black.. tend to get dirty easily.)

but love it none the less.

For me.. just make sure the heater works.. some time the DCCV valve give out early ( but from this forum.. thats an easy fix... )

goood luck... (ps: look for use STR.. much more power to drive)

If its not to late:

Have car inspected! Take it to a lift and remove the front under pan, LOOK for oil leaks from the oil pan, and DCCV valve as mentioned. Look at the tranny electrical connection as well, they tend to leak, it is located under the vehicle as well. Take a white napkin and wipe the firewall side of the intake manifold, looking for oil too, That is where the IMT orings are located, they tend to leak. Check valve covers for oil leaks as well. All the above are commo leaks with 3.0 litre S Types. Check front end alignment, checking front tires for inside tread wear.

I bought a S-Type 2003 today and I'm back in the Jaguar mold. The car checked out nicely and it drove great. Silver, black, new tires. I hope this car holds out as well as the other jags I've had. If it reads right, the trip back said 32 MPG, 3.0 .The only problem is now my wife wants to drive MY car and not her's. I love Jags and cant wait to drive it on a long trip. I'll post pictures when I have some time.

Well, I have to be the quickest owner/non owner on this board. I bought the SType on saturday, and returned it today. I was scared off by the oil droppings on the garage floor. Lots of oil. PO said he was not aware of it. You have to understand that maybe I jumped the gun a bit. I'm looking for a very safe and dependable car to get back and forth to work. He's going to fix the gasket himself and told me if I still want it, he'll call me. The Stype was one very beautiful car, I can't say enough of. The dealer I called said they would fix the leak for $610.00, but the owner wanted to do it himself, quite the job if you ask me. Oh well, kick me again, maybe down the road I'll get another, damm their nice.

He's going to replace the oil pan gasket. Oil is dripping down from the sides onto the 4 bolts below, the plug, but not bad enough to cover the underside of the chassis. I work on some cars, but it looks like this is a big job to me. Thanks for updating my account and maybe things will change for the better.

I have done that job on my back, time consuming yes but if he takes his time not a bad job. As I mentioned in post #5, make sure the valve covers are not leaking as well!
