Default Alex from Flanders says hello

After being in doubt for a couple of weeks, I decided today to join this forum. I was in doubt because English isn't my native language. I live in Flanders (hence my nickname) so I speak Dutch. I've learned that reading in English goes a lot slower and writing very often means making mistakes...

Now, regarding my car. Two weeks ago I've bought a Jaguar XJ Souvereign. It's a black car with an ivory interior and charcoal lining. It's 10 years old (model 2006) and a diesel (!). The Belgian government makes it ridiculously expensive to drive a big petrol engine in this country. Now I have to pay € 800,00 to the government to get a permission to drive the car … If it would a 4.0 petrol engine, I would have to pay about € 5.000,00. They all want us to drive small cars with a tiny engine…

Since I bought the car from a Jaguar dealer, he knows all the prior owners and I got a one year guarantee.

I haven’t got my Jaguar yet. I first have to sell my Audi A5 Sportback to create some room in my garage, so I hope I can pick up the car in the beginning of July.

Jaak (= Jacques in Dutch; this is the Jaguar’s nickname; for some reason I give a name to all my cars …) will be used to drive to my customers who live further away. My closeby customers, I visit with my motorcycle (BMW R1200RT LC).

I also have a 2011 Mazda MX5 for fun.

Looking forward to become a member of thislively forum! :-)

Alex, your written English is Excellent!! Better in fact, than many native English speakers! And you have expressed yourself very clearly.

I have always named my cars, I don't think that is unusual.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Alex,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. No problem with your written English.

That's a heavy tax on petrol engines in Belgium! I'm not surprised you chose a diesel.

@ Jim: It seems that we have more or less the same car (although the one I bought is a 2005 model): it's also a black diesel with 20" alloys (Sepang), Ivory interior with black piping.
I'm still in doubt regarding the 20" tires, however. I've made a deal with the sales person so I can replace the 20" for 19" or even 18" tires.
Are you happy with the Jaguar's comfort when driving these wheels?
