Hi, everybody! My name is Dan, and I have a car problem
My latest purchase would have you scratching your head if you knew me. Normally I buy sports cars from mostly Italian or German makers, with a couple Japanese exceptions, and I'm even the "president" of the Austin chapter of FIAT Club America ...but now I have something completely different. A 1993 XJ40.
This is my first ever Jag, and only the second British vehicle. The first being a 2012 LR4, because if you have to have a truck it might as well be a nice one!
A friend of mine posted it for sale on facebook with an attractive price, and the pictures looked great. He explained to me that it was having some fuel issues, but we were both confident in my abilities to sort that out. After looking the car over and being satisfied with it's condition, we started it up with the help of some ether. It would run for a moment, but then cut out. That was good enough for me so we set out loading it on my trailer. Since it would run as long as you gave it a little squirt of ether, we decided that I'll run alongside the car spraying while he drove it onto the trailer. I had to shout directions to him of course as his view was blocked by the hood. It worked a treat!
There's got to be a punchline to go with that image...
After we got the car up on the trailer, I notice that she was dumping fuel while she was running. No wonder the engine wasn't getting enough gas; most of it was going on the pavement instead! It'll be a couple weeks before I have the time to look at the problem in detail, but I'm hoping that I can just replace a few fuel lines and be cruising in my new Jag in no time. She really is in great shape for her age. Just barely old enough to qualify for antique plates, too!
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. I'll be checking YouTube for a sight of your trailer loading technique.

Oh, and it's RED!! My second favorite color, right after BLACK!
Congratulations, Dan, on your first Jaguar!
I hope you have correctly diagnosed the problem.

I really wish I had gotten it on video, but unfortunately I didn't. It was hilarious and reckless, but worked really well

I'm not really biased to one color or another overall, but red does look great on this car. Definitively one of the things that suckered drew me in. The paint looks great for it's age, too. Most other cars you see from this era are faded or have pealing clear coat, but this one is in great shape! Probably higher quality than average materials?
