Fan Running Unusually Long After Shutting off Vehicle
Hello Jag Forum Members,
I'm new to the site and after perusing through many of the threads, I am happy I found it.
I have a 2007 Vanden Plas. About a month ago, after driving approximately 8 miles, I noticed the temperature gauge indicating my car was running hot. I immediately pulled over to check the coolant level and other indicators for an overheating engine. Didn't notice anything so I let it sit for about 20 minutes and drove back home (indicator did not increase). When I shut the vehicle off, the fan stayed on much longer than usual (about 5 to 7 minutes)...I assume to cool the engine down. I took the vehicle to the shop the following day and they informed me the temperature gauge is indicating the engine is running hot, but their test showed the engine was, in fact, running strong and in temperature normal range. I drove the car home (about 5 miles) and the gauges were normal. However, again, when I shut the vehicle off the fan stayed on for about 5 minutes. I started the car the next morning and let it idle while closely watching the temperature indicator...It was normal. I drove it for about 4 miles and the indicator stayed in normal range. When I shut if off, the fan stayed on for about 3 to 4 minutes. I've been told the problem could possibly be the coolant temperature sensor. I have a ASE certified mechanic coming this weekend, however, I wanted to see if anyone has experienced this problem? If so, can you please advise as to how you solved it.
Thanks for you help in advance!

Welcome to the forum mlatneysr,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
You should certainly take any indication of overheating very seriously. Water pump and thermostat are possible culprits; checking for error codes will help identify a problem with the ECT sensor.
It sounds like you have already found the relevant model froum but if not, follow this link XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X350 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
