Default First Jag and problems day 2.

Cheers all. Brantman here from Dublin (Georgia) . I bought a lady owned '00 XK8 convertible with low mileage; clean, etc. Other than 2 bald tires & both front wheels slightly bent, it seemed flawless. I Had wheels straightened for $230 and put four new tires on (one of the other two' almost new' had a sidewall tear that bothered me). As I exited the tire store, my "check brake light" came on. Two blown bulbs. I started to head for the auto parts place and discovered that the top would not go up. Changed pump fluid using recommended stuff and it still won't budge, but a red light did lite up on the dash. I did not go into the windshield area yet as I am still a bit timid concerning putting a wrench on this car. Anyone have any suggestions other than "take it to the dealer", who is 130 miles away and I'm already broke what with Christmas, New Years and this late life crisis. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Happy New Year.

Welcome to the forum brantman,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues. Plenty of advice there on convertible top issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link USA Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

I'm sorry to read you're already having trouble with your 'new' Jaguar.
The fact is, there's a reason someone gets rid of a car; sometimes more than one. It would seem your car has suffered from neglect and lack of even easy maintenance. That's a shame too, because it reflects badly on a basically good car.

Few in here (none!) would tell you to "Take to a dealer." This site exists to help people like you who find themselves frustrated not knowing what to do and at the end of their ropes. Graham has directed you to the proper section where you can find answers to your problems and the easiest and most economical ways to fix them.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome Brantman
Many of us have suffered through the first year of ownership where the previous owner either neglected issues or covered them up. The only cure is follow the advice given above, lots of people here can help you through just about any issue you may have. Many of us in the XK8/XKR section of the forum do our own work, so grab your spanners and head out to the garage. It's a great car just takes a bit of sweat and blood to keep them that way.
