Default Greetings! New to the forum, and to my S-type 4.0

Hello there fellow Jag lovers!

Proud owner of a (new to me) 2000 S-Type 4.0 here. I love this car. It drives well, has a great balance of power and fuel economy, and is just the right size to be comfortable while not being too large. However, I just found out about the timing chain issues this model is known for. Didn't notice it when I test drove the car, but there is definitely a rattle in the front of the engine when I cold start, and when I accelerate, so I've been perusing this forum to try and figure out what to do. So far, I've decided that selling it and buying a 4.2 might be my best option (provided the transmission of the 4.2 is sound). Second option may be to do the timing chain/tensioner replacement my self ( with help from my dad, who is an ASE Master tech, and had a Jag/Daimler/RR shop back in the 80's).

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Bassthoven,

Follow Norri's link to the S-Type section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Thanks guys! Gonna pull the trigger on the timing kit (need to find a place to rent the tools), or purchasing a low milage 4.2l to see if I can make that work in a 2000 S-Type. Can anyone direct me to any threads of others who have replaced a 4.0 with a 4.2, so I can get an idea of what may be involved?

Thanks!

Best to start a new thread in S-Type section to get the widest response and latest info on engine swaps.
