Talking Hi From Akron 4,Ohio, USA!

I'm GcMsGuru in Akron Ohio, USA and am a new Jaguar owner as of December 21, 2019 when I bought a 1992 XJ6/XJ40 Vanden Plas. Got it for a great price considering everything. It’s cosmetically wonderful with a LOT of nagging electrical problems (as expected …) and some other issues: possibly

mechanical , possibly electrical, or both. Time will tell …

The only experience I have with Jaguars, other than what little I’ve learned since Dec 21, is having changed a clutch in an XKE WAY back in the 1970's when I was a racing team member. At that time my partner and I campaigned a 1968 Dodge “Hemi” Dart on the Winston Pro Drag circuit. Oh yeah, I’m that old at 72, but still kickin’ and doin’ just about like back then.

I’ve lived in several locations in my adult life. Akron Ohio, Atlanta Georgia, Naples Florida, Live Oak Florida, and Urbanizacion Los Canales, cerca del pueblo de rio chico en el estado miranda (Los Canales development, near the town of Rio Chico in the state of Miranda)

I’ve been very lucky in having had quite a bit of experience in several areas including electronic engineering, aviation, computer programming, car repair, drag racing, and home construction and repair.

Just FYI so people understand the situation: had quite a bit of money at one time up until a financial disaster in early 2010. Since then I live on social security only and make every penny count to the fullest.

As far as aviation goes I presently hold a private pilot certificate with instrument rating and have owned three airplanes and am building another. They were a ’46 Taylorcraft BC12D (rebuilt from a basket case), a ’74 Piper Warrior 161 (sold 2009), a ’69 Piper Cherokee 6 260 (sold 2009), and the build in progress is a WeedHopper 2 ultralight to be licensed as amateur built.

Did (and continue to do) all my own work on the airplanes properly supervised by certified A&P mechanics. This has included two engine overhauls: top and bottom end on a Continental A-65 (Taylorcraft) and a top overhaul on the Lycoming O-540 (Cherokee 6).

For that matter, I’ve only had a car repair done in a shop twice: first time was an auto trans repair done in the late ‘90’s while my job kept me on the road five to six days a week. Second time was much more recently around 2012 when I had a shop change out the rear spring mounts on my Ford Ranger. Everything else I’ve always done myself; including engine rebuilds, clutches, transmissions, brakes, and body work, etc.

Looking forward to fixing up my Jag and meeting people right here!
