Smile <--jaguar virgin, till yesterday!

Hey all, I'm Abraham.
Yesterday I became the happy owner of a '98 XJR.

I have big plans of doing some mods, but first I gotta figure out why it's trying to overheat.
It's 40 degrees outside, yet it's running a little arm.
Then all of a sudden it shoots up to red in a matter of about 15-30 seconds.

I plan to put in a low temp thermostat and updated water pump, hopefully that will fix.

Other mods in the plan:
Cold air intake, inter cooler radiator and pump, frozen brake rotors and yellow stuff pads for all 4 corners, iridium plugs, msd ignition, coil, and wires, Mina exhaust, Mina lowering springs, eurotek upper and lower pulley plus ecu tuning.

Let's see how it goes, I'll post some pics at some point.

If you took the time to read all this, I commend you

Welcome to the forum Abraham,

You should get to the bottom of that overheating these cars don't like to be too hot.

Welcome to the forum. The FAQ and TSB sections are extremely helpfull but I am not sure if there is anything on your specific problem.

Yeah, I read the FAQ and glanced at the FSB, but it wasn't working and I think it was because of viewing it on my phone.

Default Welcome!!

Welcome Abraham. I own a 99 XJR, and have had coolant issues from the outset. You should familiarize yourself with the coolant system. The guys on the forum are great. Almost everytime I have an issue, I get on to ask and find it has been discussed at length already. As such I haven't posted much. I have done a few mods to mine, and all of those can be found in discussions on the forum as well. Head in to XJR section, the coolant discussion is always ongoing. We all have issues.

Thanks everyone for the great welcome.
I've got the jag in a shop to pinpoint the cooling issues.
Im an ok gear head, if I know what needs done I can often get it done, but I suck at diagnosing issues.
So we shall see

Water pump and thermostat.
As soon as I get those pieces in it'll be fixed.
I could've waited to take it somewhere until I did those 2 things, but the dealer I bought it from has a 5 day return policy type deal and they agreed to pay for the diagnostic to see what was wrong.
Actually, now they're paying for the new parts even though I already ordered and had planned to put them in myself at some point.

Repair shop wanted $800!

Sounds like you have found a reputable dealer. Integrity is always sought in business dealings so when you experience it, share your find. The business deserves it, and so does the public.
