Welcome to the forum tw5,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

The minor instrument gauges have a reputation for being more decorative than functional! Plenty of discussion in the XK8 tech section.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-68/
to find other members in this country.

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome Tw5,
The gauges on your dash are pretty not functional. For example the temperature gauge will only go into the red once your motor is fried. WhiteXKR has a kit that will make them function. It's on my short list of things to do this winter.

The battery gauge is actually (sort of) a voltmeter, not an ammeter, so it would not be expected to move much under varying load. Basically it will show you if your battery is charging or not with the ignition on, or if the battery is nearly dead. That is about the limit of its usefulness.

My product, RealGauge, is currently available for the coolant gauge and the oil pressure gauge, both of which are basically fancy idiot lights in their unmodified form. More information can be found here: XK8 / XKR / XJ RealGauge - TheJagWrangler
