Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
The minor instrument gauges have a reputation for being more decorative than functional! Plenty of discussion in the XK8 tech section.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Welcome Tw5,
The gauges on your dash are pretty not functional. For example the temperature gauge will only go into the red once your motor is fried. WhiteXKR has a kit that will make them function. It's on my short list of things to do this winter.

My product, RealGauge, is currently available for the coolant gauge and the oil pressure gauge, both of which are basically fancy idiot lights in their unmodified form. More information can be found here: XK8 / XKR / XJ RealGauge - TheJagWrangler
