LPG on a 1994 xj40
Ive recently bought a 1994 xj40/xj6 gold 3.2l And was wondering if it's worth fitting a lpg system to it and what the cost and saving would be. I'm in the Leicester area
Any advise is welcome

Welcome to the forum Iceman9,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
It's an expensive conversion so potential savings depend on how long you intend to keep the vehicle and the mileage you expect to cover.
Follow this link XJ40 ( XJ81 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ40 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome.
Graham has basically nailed it.
My opinion is NO, LPG is for cremating food to be eaten in conjunction with a cold beer. Much more benefical than LPG on any car, unless its a Cab or similar, where kms/miles are massive per year.
Was all the rage down here a few years ago, but LPG is now, on average, more than 1/2 the price of Unleaded Petrol. Back in those days it was less than 1/3 the price of Unleaded.

Sounds like LPG is expensive in Adelaide Grant, we pay less than half normally. Dont know the relativity in the UK, but here you need to be doing lots of kilometres to recoup the price of the conversion in a reasonable time (lots meaning more than 50k klms a year).
Other issues/features of LPG:
1. Loss of power . A really well tuned injected LPG system is almost equal to petrol. In reality you will notice something like 10-15% less power in normal use. You seat of the pants dynamometer will notice a slight loss of zing.
2. Economy also goes off by about 10% compared with petrol. So you are paying less but using more
3. LPG generates more heat. Your cooling system needs to be kept in good order.
4. LPG is a dry fuel and gives valve seats no mercy at all. Some engines handle this OK, some suffer rapid seat wear, I have no idea how Jags engines react. You can buy add on a valve lubrication system for safety (and that is more money to recoup if you are thinking of this for fuel cost reasons)
5. Obvious I guess , but in a sedan you will lose boot space.
Been running LPG in a Toyota HiLux for 400,000 kilometers. It was a 70,000km+ a year work truck and is now just the family fetch and carry truck which suits our country location.
I am not doing LPG on my lumped Jag. I dont do the kilometeres, I enjoy the power (LPG on a carbied car is pure *****) and I use the boot. So for me it makes no sense.

Yep we are about 53 and 120. Never understand how petrol prices work here and I used to work for one of them. One thing for sure its fast to go up and slow to come down compared with the oil price.
