Default Thinking about buying one

My name is Andrew, I'm stationed at fort dix outside Trenton, NJ. I'm a metalsmith in the US navy. I've been in the search for a Jaguar recently. I just found a 2002 S type Sport 3.0 in very good cosmetic condition. It's currently at the mechanic shop where the owner is having the fuel pump replaced. They are asking 3800 for it, has Aprox 139k on it. I have read a lot of good and bad things about the 2000-2002s so I was nervous but I've also read that about the 2003+. I certainly don't wanna get stuck with a lemon.

Best of luck in your search. I can't answer to the "earlier" models, but would put in my support for the later year S type. I have a 2006 type R and think it is one of the finest automobiles, for the price, every made. My experience shows that the lower the miles the better and a well documented service history is almost a must. From what I've read, the slight premium that one pays for the lower mileage cars yeilds many times the difference in later repairs and maintenance. Happy hunting!

They said today they would take 3500 for it after the shop finishes the fuel pump. I was thinking about calling the shop and seeing if they would tell me if it needs anything else and what kind of condition it's in.

Welcome to the forum Andrew,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Service history is very important with any used Jaguar. Regular scheduled services throughout its life and a convincing explanation for any gaps. I always like to put a code reader on any potential purchase as that can tell me a lot more than any owner will!

Follow this link S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the USA North East Region forum by following this link USA North East - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Enjoy the forums.

Thank you. This is the one I am leaning towards the most. Even though it's near the top of my budget and not my favorite color, The dealer has an A- with the BBB( not an A+ due to length the business has been open) and several good reviews online.

Andrew,

I suggest you post the link and the question in S-Type forum for opinions of members with the same model.

Got to say I'm surprised you are finding Jaguars for sale with no service history .......
