Default 2001 stype 4.0 throttle issue

I have an issue with my tb I think, I have a p1586 code and engine in fail safe mode. The car runs but it barely idles and the gas pedal does nothing when pressed. I can't reset the dtc code either.

Be sure to look up that code FOR YOUR MODEL not for anything else. With care you can search on here or of course use the free download workshop manual.

It's not what you think so don't go messing till you've researched more.

Finally got the issues fixed after all the reading of posts and all the wiring schematics I've researched on JTIS. It turned out to be as simple as a fuse was in the wrong location. I looked at it at least ten times im sure, but what i found was in the manual it said the fuse location wasn't used but sure enough it was. The one next to it wasn't used so i just switched them and bingo she has a pedal and runs.

Just has a little miss that im sure is from not running right and needs to run for a while to clear up also still got a p0341 fault but since i fixed the fuse problem i havent cleared the codes so it may be a lingering code. I did notice when i pulled the cps it had some damage to it. Once again thatnks to some good advice on the forums ive got a direction to move in. I need to change out the valve cover bolts above the cps. Going to clear codes and see where it goes from there.

Improve things by clearing the codes and a hard reset.

How did you ever put the fuse in the wrong place? Or is it a car new to you but you failed to mention that?

yes sorry i bought the car with a new engine in it and whom ever tried to put the engine it in messed everything up. i am fixing everything that they touched what a pain. Well new issue it will start and run then all of a sudden just die with no codes or anything, i put fuel pressure gauge on it and it has fuel pressure even when it stalls but when it stalls it goes up to 60 psi. when it dies it just quits no sputtering or nothing just stops. Another hurdle with this car.

You are working in the dark!

Get the shop manual (JTIS) free on this forum or you can get a PDF version on ebay for about $10.

You will need it for your project.

Any idea about the timing chain tensioners? You said new engine but from Jaguar or the junk yard?

got the throttle issue figured out was a fuse that was marked as not used in the manual so there was none in there after putting one in it started right up. Everything is new with the updated tensioners.

Default Which fuse did you replace???

which fuse?
which fuse did you find needing replacement?
my jag is 2001 3.0 S-type, fuse locations may not be the same, but you imput would be helpful.
I recently purchased 2001 3.0 S at auction, so just like you, I am working on a situation with no prior info imput.
Fuse: position number & fuse box location please.

Two years old, different car.

Make a lot more sense to look up what you ask in the free downloads. Even the handbook has them and is free from Jaguar!
