Default 2003 str has sound but no display screen

I've got a strange Nav issue going on,
recently I did a hard reset on the car and removed car battery to fully charge it overnight, all well.
I reconnected the battery and everything was sweet, car is running well.
My touch screen display has been saying the dvd is not a map dvd for a while, so after reading about others with the same issue, I removed the dvd which is 2004 European edition, ( the str was a Japanese import?)and noticed some light scratches, I gave the dvd a clean but didn't put it back into the nav unit.
The headunit display was working fine without the dvd for a few days then all of a sudden when I started the car up the headunit was black and LCD screen showed ext then flashing c1 50 51
, The Aircon seems to be on in some way and the radio/ sound is working just no display.
I wacked the dvd back in, I can hear the disc spinning but no change with the display.

would the fact I removed the dvd and didn't put it back in have caused this to happen, if so is there a procedure I need to do to get the display up and running again?
I'm not sure where to start?

You'll need to follow the mega-thread about those codes.

I've checked out a tread on the c1 50 51, and tried burning a disc with the file suggested and running that in the nav unit but no joy, and i don't want to buy another nav module if the wiring is the fault here, the nav module ejects the discs and spins up, so theres power to the module.

I did run a diagnostic on the nav module and communication module via ids (I've not used ids before) and got two messages...
Break connector CA258
And
Break connector FC001

I'm guessing these refer to a fault in the wiring? But I'm not sure, if anyone has any info they can share to help out that be great.

I think the instructions refer to the CAbin connector 258 (unplug it) and the Fascia Connector 001 (unplug it).

Thanks 👍, just another quick question,
where can I find out which connector that is on the module and display? And what route does the wiring take through the car?

Just an idea: If battery disconnect may have caused the trouble, did you try if another battery disconnect would solve the issue again? When I bought an S-Type with nav, the Nav. was persistent in telling me, that the inserted disc is not a nav CD - but it was - but everything else worked alright - I bought a second hand Nav-unit to solve the issue...

The Electrical Guide has all the info on Connectors and a general location on the page preceding the actual diagram.

I'm looking at which replacement nav module is suitable?
the nav unit I have is part number 2R83 10E887 BBmy 2002.5 str is a Japanese import,
Will a European unit be ok to fit?
If so what part number should I be looking for?
It's a bit confusing looking on eBay etc.

I think that the NAV units from the X350, X202, X400 are all compatible.
The only thing that makes them regional specific is the DVD if you are talking about the unit in the boot.
