Default 2006 stype sport oil change question 142000KM

Good evening everyone, first off...what a great site...just love it.
My question tonight, I have owned this car for 5 years, owners manual calls for dino oil changes at 13k or one year. I have been changing my oil every 5k or 3 months, using Castrol....with a M1 extended performance filter.

I get the oil on sale,...sometimes by double if the deal is great... and have a great Jag mech here in the city.....that only services our type of cars.....so cool going in there and seeing cars from 1980 to 2013....awesome....

IE- oil for car 20.00, filter 14.....50 for him to run his computer on the car, and change the labour, I always like to know if there are any codes coming up....good news! This time nothing.....I also sprayed the under body with Rust Check while is was in the air....on any rusted parts I saw...

I was just wondering...am I changing my oil to soon? What do you guys do? I do not use synthetic because my dealer said not to.

Also, I have had all fluids changed last year, except power steering....is this important to do?
Thank you guys, have a rockin weekend!

The factory recommended oil change interval is 16K km or annually which ever come fist. The recommended oil type is regular 'dino' oil, no extended interval is mentioned if synthetic oils are used.

I've followed the 16K/annual interval since buying mine and see no reason change type or interval.

We have a lowly Honda Civic of the same vintage in the family fleet- it has a similar interval.

Don't know of any modern cars that has a 5K oil change interval. The newest Jags are 24K Km.

I'm with Mikey, 5K km is too soon if you are concerned you could still easily double that and stay well within the recommendations.

In the end, I just recommend doing what we feel most comfortable with. To me, 5k is a bit too soon also. But, that's just my opinion. I go the full recommended interval using Mobil 1.

You mentioned about the steering fluid:

I change the steering fluid the same time I change my brake fluid.

Also: I noticed this happen many times so I just wanted to point it out. if you do plan to change out the steering fluid, please make sure Dextron 3 fluid is put in and not power steering fluid.

Have a great weekend

I think those that follow the owners manual recommended change intervals will be fine. Just use a decent dino oil and a decent filter....

For the past 30 years or so I've done all of my oil & filter changes at 6,000 miles simply because it's neither too frequent nor too infrequent. I do it myself, I purchase my supplies on sale, and it works for me. Given our current driving habits, that works out to one oil & filter change per year on my S-Type and two to three oil & filter changes per year on my wife's XK8....

The manual says 3000 miles for my 2000 S Type 3.0.
Where are you guys getting these high numbers from?
Is it different because mine is an older car?

Which manual states 3K miles? Is it a Jaguar publication?

The 10K mile/16K kilometre recommendation is from the factory maintenance schedule contained in JTIS.

Weird. Please post the reference of the manual, it'll be like JJM 18 xx xx xx or some such and the date if it has one.

The oldest S-type owner's manual still on line via Topix is for 2001. There is no mention of any oil change interval. Maybe you could scan and post what you're seeing?

Son of a....
I can't find oil change interval in the manual anywhere...
It's JJM 18 02 16/95
I could've sworn I read 3,000 miles in it somewhere
Can anyone tell me a specific section to look under? Can't find it

It's in the "Passport to Service" booklet, which is separate from the Owners Manual. At least that's how it is for our two Jaguars....

OK... anyway it's 10K miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.

About the only harm with 3K miles is to your wallet.
