Default Another project (Valve Cover Gasket + More)

When I was changing the engine oil last week, I noticed the oil leak on (right-side) valve cover gasket. I decide to tackle it myself. I just ordered bunch of parts (valve cover gasket, spark plug gasket, intake manifold gasket, spark plugs, fuel filter).

I think this should cover most of maintenance needs for my S-Type.

Oh yeah, I also ordered "YH1504 Ambient Air Temperature Sensor" as well for my heat/AC issue.

Thanks again!!! I was able to get all the information I needed...

Are you sure its not the IMT dripping down onto the valve cover?

Mine was leaking oil about a week or two ago, pretty badly. I look at the puddle on the garage floor and kinda flipped out. Was an easy fix though, somehow the filter came lose. It had been 2 months since I changed it.

I still haven't found the time to do it yet. Something bad happened last weekend. I was on hwy, and when I accelated CEL came on and started to blink for a while. I release the trottle, and minute later the light turned off.

I ordered ELMScanner to get the codes. I'm hoping it's due to oils in spark plugs. I might have to order new set of ignition coils as well. uhmmm....

Flashing MIL = catalyst-damaging misfires occurring right then

Thanks, I guess I will need to read the codes first before ordering other parts.

I got the ElmScan5 and scanned Jag. I got only P1111 code. Nothing on last weekend's blinking CEL.

So, the question is, should I replace ignition coil sets as well when I replace spark plugs???

Up to you but I'd move on to more OBD - much cheaper.

P1111 is good but hardly surprising. It says that the OBD monitors managed to run. Could be months ago. It's just a very basic summary.

You could clear the codes (not that you have any) and it would then reset to P1000. Don't! You may get into a mess and have no reason to take that chance.

Instead, start looking at data from sensors - that's "live data".

Ideally you'd look for sane values from everything that matters to actual engine control (and ignore others as they're irrelevant for now).

But start with (long term) fuel trims (LTFT). Look at both banks at idle and at about 2500rpm (in Park will do).

Before you look at them make sure both banks are running CL (closed loop).

(Read about OBD II and feedback systems for understanding.)

Okay, it took more time than I'd liked. But I did it.

I replaced left/right valve cover & spark plug gaskets, all six spark plugs, upper & lower intake manifold gaskets, and fuel filter. It took about 7 hours including removing undercover to retreive couple of bolts I dropped. :P

I test drove and everything is good. Very smooth reving and engine sounds pretty good. hehehe..

Thank you, everyone; especially Rick.

Glad to see that you accomplished the mission!! 7 hours isn't bad for what you replaced.

Thanks, Rick.

I drove it yesterday (Jag is my wife's car) on highway, and it was very smooth almost felt like new jag. I should check for any codes since I haven't done that yet.

hey guys, I replaced the valve gaskets on both-sides. On the driver-side I noticed the oil pooling on spark plugs area like I used to have back in early 2010. I don't think this is gasket issue, but where can this oil come from??? Argh.......

also, I noticed quite a bit of oil in PCV tube. I am waiting to replace PCV valve and the tube, but is it normal to see the oil???

Maybe from the split PCV tube and it is just dripping into the spark plug well.
