Anto theft red light near windscreen stays on
Hi all. Need some advice but just aquired an s type. On the top of the dash near windscreen in centre is a red light. This stays on whilst driving which is very distracting. Is this normal on the first hand and secondly is there a way to turn it off. Thanks
Sounds like the PATS light and if so it should be off when engine running.
With the car stopped and locked it out to flash regularly.
The freely downloadable workshop manual etc describe what else it should do e.g. flash codes for faults.
I've never heard of it staying on like yours!

+1 on PATS issue. It would also be helpful to know MY or plate and engine size.
Check battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position for at least ten minutes. There should be a minimum of 12.6 volts, if not, charge the battery overnight and retest the following day. A failing or weak battery can cause all sorts of phantom electrical issues to appear.

It's liable to be a lot more than a half volt during cranking and maybe during other high peak current needs. A tired battery can easily drop 2-3 volts below what a good battery does, and at that big a drop all manner of things just can't work properly.
amen to that jagv8. I had to learn the hard way. Thankfully members like you are packed with knowledge
