Default Central Locking - malfunction

Hello all.
STR 2002 - central locking issue - on 1st push of lock on key fob, door lock responds to lock but then immediately opens again. ..and if I Immediately push it again, it then dead locks all doors except passenger door which if you go to open that door from the outside it actuates the alarm.
So here is what i have done so far:
  • Checked battery...this was new just before i bought the car a few months back...output good ...green check light on battery also confirms this.
  • Checked fuses related to alarm/locking
  • Disconnect battery for an hour reconnect- Interestingly it (the problem) seemed to operate OK, but only on first use...then back to malfunction once locked again.
Any thoughts out there where / what to do next, would be very much appreciated?

Hi JagV8, thanks for your quick reply. I did run a search first and couldn't find anything similar, can you possibly point them out please?

Use obvious words.

Like
unlock
lock
door

Or... just look down the thread titles.

Sounds very much the same as my 06 did...turned out the door latch on the suspect door had failed internally...there is a slider that moves internally that sends a signal to the module that the door is either locked or unlocked...in my case it even showed as the door being open on the message center....the rears are a bear to replace ,but doable without removing the small window....before any teardown, i suggest checking for codes if you can

OK so its now fixed and the locking is back to normal....
before i get to the what i did, i'd like to say thanks to all you guys (scottjh9, Joycesjag, Jagv8) that pointed me in the right direction.
Joycesjag write-up from way back in 2011 helped a lot. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-65657/

I could see the difficulty with taking the door handle out...and i was hoping to save my hands from yet another bashing in tight places where hands are not designed to fit!!!.
My issue was front passenger door..it was only a slight variation to joycesjag write up...but good enough. So with a spare front passenger door that i had from my other car, i had a practice and found that i could un-clip the green device from the actuator without having to take the handle out. I should say that I only discovered this after removing the handle from the spare door that is and i wasn't too fussed about damaging the old spare unit. ...ultimately it does save in having to faff around with the PITA handle removal and replacement on my working car.

I did test the replacement actuator by hooking up the electronics and it worked fine so i pressed on. Using my newly patented washer i pushed it onto the green clip and hey presto it jumped right out. On closer inspection it looks like the green clip would open/release another way i.e. off the vertical rod but it also looks like it can be broken very easily too so i decided the washer option was best.

Once i figured out how to get the old one out (most fiddly job i can remember since changing the primary cooling rad on this beast) from inside the door and the replacement in, then very quickly clipped it in. The new actuator was bit of a struggle but went back almost the same way....its yet another off the list of must have / need to fix items.
