I also have an '05 STR & haven't been able to figure it out, but then again, I haven't really tried that hard.

Covered before with pics so do some Searching - but yes they do IF you go through some work and don't mind the cross-bracing.

Mine folds down whenever you hit the brakes hard, and it slams against both front seats and leaves a dent in the rears. Its really damn annoying..

Maybe those pics above will help show where the catches are and then maybe you can figure out why they're not working.

Look in the boot each side and there is a pull knob to release each seat, they are tucked away with pull ties so look behind the carpet up high both sides.

^ yes there are 2 releases in the trunk one on each side. Pull the release for the side you want then go in the back seat and pull down that side....Pretty simple.

Actually Jaguar took the easy way out. The base cars both V6 and V8 have folding seats. The R has them "deleted" because of the bulkhead that is put in the R only for reinforcement. Only, Jaguar was "too cheap" to make a whole different seat back for the R so they tucked the release cables behind the carpet to trick ya... . Car companies crack me up....

Here's another good one... Chrysler uses a "sealed for life" Mercedes transmission in their 300's... Yet it has a dip stick tube! Only it is plugged with a rubber cap that says..get this... "For Dealer Use Only"...

I was starting to think I was crazy. I went in the garage a while ago and looked & looked and couldn't find anyway to get them to fold.

Thanks for the info Jeff.

Look harder and you will find 2 black tube like cables with pull knobs, they will be pull tied to the body to stop them moving, only a foot long so have another look and you will find them, right up by the boot /trunk springs.

When I couldn't figure out how to put my seats down, I sucked up my pride and went to the dealership to ask them. Didn't feel so bad when they told me the R seats don't fold down because of the reinforcement brace they use.

Default cable retainers/mounts where to get

I found my cables early on, but have not been able to source the factory clip - I think which likely mounts them into a flat surface near the spring so they are visible and easily reached.
Need to find a parted out regular S type or something but haven't had time.
Usually the simplest little parts are the hardest to find!
PR

Your right there, I have been to jag and there is no part listed.
Jag brakers I think is the best even if it's just for the part number for it.

Default RE: STR rear seat fold down

Thanks for the posts on the rear seat fold down. The other week I had to transport my new 55lb labador puppy to the vet for his shots. Needless to say both his paw nails and teeth are still real sharp. I was worried about what he was going to to to my leather seats during the transport. I looked in my owner's manual for the ability to fold down the rear seats but like most of you was not able to locate the mechanism. Unfortunately I didn't see this thread until just now so I ended up building a "nest" of blankets in the front passenger seat and holding him in it the whole way there. Next time I will be able to lower the back seats for him which will make both of us happy.

In case anyone was wondering about the steel plate behind the seats, I decided to take mine out and document it with pictures. http://zimnox.com/jaguar/foldingseats.htm

It's pretty simple, just remove the nine 10mm bolts and it'll come right out.
