I have a Elm327 usb and have download the Forscan software with extended license. Elm connects to laptop but will not connect to car. It says can not connect vehicle. I tried on another vehicle and it connects as soon as I plug it in. The ignition is on the on position. It is reading the battery voltage in the lower right hand corner of the forscan software. I also check all the fuses.

What Jaguar did it work on?

 

forscan works by finding known ford pcm calibrations. the only jaguars with ford pcms are 00-02 S-Types and even then it probably won’t ID it

 

The other vehicle I connected it to was a Ford truck.

 

Im trying to program a new key. I can not find a locksmith in my area and don't want to spend an arm and a leg at the dealer. I downloaded the Jaguar software but I have read it has to be a certain version. Also, im not sure the Elm327 will work connecting it. Does anyone know of any other software for programing 2003 jaguar s type keys that would work with the Elm327?

 

I'm nearly 100% sure no such software is available for an elm-type device.

Also, there's nearly no demand for such.

 

I'm no expert on key programming, but I think you will need a Jaguar-compatible pass-through Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) such as the Ford/Mazda/JLR VCM (not VCM2), Drew Technologies JLR Mongoose cable (or possibly a Mongoose clone), or another compatible J2534 pass-through device. The ELM327 does not have the bi-directional capability or data speed required for programming. Also, you will need Jaguar dealership-level software such as Jaguar Land Rover Symptom Driven Diagnostics (JLR SDD).

But be aware that attempting to program a key on your own can easily lead to loss of all key functionality for all of your keys, which will ruin your day. A knowledgeable qualified locksmith will probably save you a lot of potential trouble and shouldn't cost any more than even the least expensive compatible VCI.

elm327 is a garbage interface. mongoose jlr clone will work for forscan and sdd
