Default Modern Times foils wife

I inquired of my wife why she did not drive the Jag to run an errand. She told me that the key fob transmitter would not unlock the door so she had to take my HHR instead.

Sure enough, the battery was dead and so was her brain.

Anybody have a cheap source for the battery for the key fob? Is this something I can change myself or does the fob have to be reprogrammed if I remove the battery?

Just go to Wally World (Walmart). Should be the same kind of battery thats found in watches. You may have to look around and ask for the smaller batteries as they are sometimes not with the AA's etc. Very easy to replace yourself. Should not have to be reprogrammed if you replace it.

I bought a pack of two from battery plus a couple of weeks ago for about $6 the pair.

I don't remember the type offhand but it is in the handbook along with instructions for changing.

These batteries are very common. I had to replace them in the remotes for my wife's '08 Nissan just before she sold it to her son. I got them at a local Office Depot. Walgreen's and many other places carry them.
Her Nissan has a dash display icon that indicates a low remote battery which is very helpful.

That would be nice if Jags has that indicator. Its actually the same exact battery thats in my wifes Pontiac and I just got them from Walmart. Cant remember how much as I bought them with my groceries. But you shouldn't have any trouble finding them. But the places mentioned are going to be cheaper then your local auto parts store.

Walmart / radio shack etc... cr2032 x 2. May be on that spinning rack with the hearing aid batteries etc. No reprogramming necessary. Make sure you stack them the right way, that's how polarity is determined.

Take care,

George

Does your have 2 stacked? I just pulled mine apart for the write-up I did and there was only one battery in my fob.

I did it a couple years ago... maybe I'm confusing it with another remote. if you just did it, I'd go with your opinion over mine...

My 500 sl's remote is a pain in the butt. 4 357 batteries in that thing!

Take care,

George

Maybe accidentally a lower voltage battery would work but result in a shorter range.

I forget the type now but I bought something like 5 x batteries for about a dollar on ebay.

I'm having to get MUCH closer to my car before the key fob will unlock the doors and flash the headlights. I used to be able to do it from across the parking lot. So I figure the battery is just getting weak. Time for a new one!

Thanks for the help guys!
