Default Question about removing front hub

I thought replacing the front wheel hub assembly would be pretty straight forward. I removed the 4 bolts and it should come off, right?
I found this thread to see if there was something else I had to do.

I whacked away at it with a hammer but it won't budge. Am I missing something here or can this thing really be seized on that tightly?

I had to use a large slide hammer and a blow torch to break mine free. It was a pain in the ***. Took myself and my buddy a couple hours of beating and heating. Once it started to move though, it came out right away. Good luck.

Yep if you have the 4 bolts out whack away until it frees itself. I have read that they can get quite seized up.

Had the same issue when doing my wheel bearings,

Figured it would come apart pretty easy, HELL NO! that steel hub assembly is nicely affixed to the aluminum upright...

I ended taking the upright/knuckle off the car and putting it in my hydraulic press, and pressing the hub out from the back, don't think any amount of hammering on it with it still on the car would have budged it!

I'm gonna take it up to the shop tomorrow and use the torch there.

Be sure and use anti-seize when you reassemble. The combo of steel and Aluminum in contact causes corrosion that locks the two pieces together.

The only thing that bond it together even better is to add some road salt!!

How about electrolytic barrier tape on the knuckle? That is what I intend to do once I get it off.

I would not use tape because the hub needs to sit flush and flat to the upright.
I wire brush everything when I get it off and then use anti-seize and only a thin film of that.

Anti seize works fine. I used it after replacing both front hubs. What a PITA to get out...

I got the hubs out by threading long bolts through the knuckle into the hub. built a wood frame to just fit over the hub and support the knuckle. Tapped on the bolts with a 10 lb. hammer. In time it came out. Bead blasted the knuckle clean and used anti seize for assembly of new hubs ($40.00 on Ebay).

I had to remove the hub to replace the lower ball joints. I knocked out of couple of wheel studs the use a few bolts to force the hub out. Worked quite well, posted a video on youtube search " Jaguar Front wheel bearing removal", hope it helps.

You should save those, they are not available from Jaguar and having spares will ensure you never need them.

Very nice method. I had to swap out both front hubs on my 00 S Type. It was painful!
