Default Rear Disk Brake Advice

I'm replacing rear pads and rotors on my 2005 S Type 3.0. I didn't have any issue removing the caliper and it's frame, but I'm not able to get the old rotor off. AllData says there are retaining clips on a couple of the studs but I'm not seeing them. The rotor won't budge.

What do you recommend I do to get the rotor off?

Thanks for your help,

John

Rubber mallet. It'll be corroded on.

Thanks JagV8. I did try the rubber mallet. While it helped with my frustration, it didn't get the disk to release. I'm wondering if I would be safe using a gear puller to break the bond.

Thanks again!

Probably, if it'll fit - but hit harder with the mallet...

Spray some penetrating oil on the center hub area and use a BFH if you are going to discard the old rotors anyway.

You might want to install a lug nut a few threads on the stud to keep the rotor from launching if it suddenly comes loose.

Deal with this a lot. I agree with Motorcarman, penetrating oil and mallet, but also try using a butane torch to warm the center of the disc around the hub. I've had good luck with that. Be careful if using a hammer, I've watched slobs smash the lead threads of their wheel studs, ruining them, and making a lot more trouble for themselves.

Thanks for the replies. Hitting harder as JagV8 said did the trick. The disks eventually popped loose and the rest of teh job went well thanks to what I have learned from this forum.

Thanks again!

I have the pistons out of the calipers and would like to replace the rubber seals and the dust caps. How do I do this? Does the piston need to come apart or do I just stretch the new rubber pieces onto the piston? Thank you in advance.

You're looking for the classic S-type section. This is the modern 1999-2008 S-type area.
