I did look for a thread on this but I found nothing,
I'm going to be interfacing my cell phone with an old Parrot Minikit I have. It still works great and just clips over the visor.
I am going to be using my cellphone fro GPS duty since the on board GPS is just so atrocious when has to adapt to a route change in local traffic.
This means that I need to mount the phone where it can be seen though not operated while driving.
I'm not sure suction cup mount on either the screen or the windshield are a good idea
I did something similar with a charging dock on my ‘02. Sorry, am out of town for another week so can’t get a picture of the installation. The dock I modified is no longer available, but similar models are out there:
I cut off the protruding ball mount so the back was flat. I attached an L-shaped piece of sheet metal, so I had a horizontal blade sticking out. I inserted this blade in the seam above the radio stack, just under the center AC vents. Works slicker than snot, with one-handed operation.
Looking at the picture above, I just had another thought. You can get cradles designed to mount on a horizontal surface, such as the top of the dash. Rather than stick it there, you could attach it to a flat piece of sheet metal and insert that blade above the radio stack.
So I went full send…instead of mounting the phone, I purchased a 5” Apple CarPlay compatible screen ($100 on Amazon), tore it down and custom fabricated it to fit where the tape drawer used to be. It has a microphone for Bluetooth and can pump audio to the factory system. (I use a separate Bluetooth receiver with a better audio processor) Took some time, but I like how it looks.
Originally I wanted to use the factory screen and unit to do this. My idea was to tap into the screen and run CarPlay on a RasberryPi. Ran into roadblocks with the screen being 4:3 (CarPlay only supports widescreen ratios) and it requires a touch screen. This was the next best thing.
Just looking for a simple holder so that I can see my phone WO looking below the top of the dash. It's replacing the GPS function as well as being an in car phone.
Actually, the in car phone function is a lot less important as I don't do all that much telephoning in the car anyways and this is no longer a daily driver.
Thanks for that. So much has changed in phone technology since then. Last December I bought one of many plastic goose neck type phone holders that slip into a cup holder opening for a trip to the south for the holidays in our Lincoln MKX.
If functions pretty well and rotates so that my wife can look at it as well. But it does anchor the holder directly behind the shifter and that is somewhat clumsy. On an S-type it would be intolerable. I am concerned about the intrusion of the sun
This might work for me but the info on their website is rather sparse. They do list instructions about how to install the mount but I haven't figured out how my phone would be held by the mount. https://pro-fit-intl.com/collections...e-legend-mount

I think 4 short sheet metal screws should do the trick, one at each corner of the mount plate. Calculate the length carefully so you don’t break the glass on the face of your phone.
I have bought a bunch of those on Aliexpress. The holder on the first 2 pictures looks a bit cooler, but the one is the last picture is easier to use.
Both attach to the dashboard above the odometer.
Obviously the silver and golden version are utter nonsense, as anything on the dash which is not dark, reflects in the windscreen and hinters your sight. So the black one...
Note that the rubbers, which hold the phone are attached with "Chinese adhesive", which is meant to say: They dislodge after 5 minutes, But you can then attach them with proper glue.
I really like the one in the last picture. I attach them to the dash only, when I need GPS. The problem with that one is, it does not seen to be available for purchase anymore, but I just saw a similar design without the "Jaguar" logo.
I like the way they are positioned in the car. I do not think that the phone "blocking" a small section of the "view", which you got out the front, constitutes a problem, but on the contrary I think that it is an advantage that you do not have to look away from the windscreen to look for a phone with GPS somewhere down below on the dash. However, if you are very small, your view out the front might be different and the phone up on the dash might really be a problem...
This is a industry wide universal style mount for multiple types of devices such as tablets. The phone does not mount directly to it. You buy an adapter that attaches to your hone and then screws on that plate.
I think the method for attaching to the dash looks very nice and I've already figured out that I want the phone to the right of the display in the dash. But I am concerned that this piece plus the adapter for the phone will rather bulky and intrusive. You also can't remove the mount from the dash very easily either.

I can't understand, how phone could overhead, if mounded above the dash (with the phone holder, which I use), as it would not be that hot while driving (air conditioning).
Overheating could only take place, when the car is parked, and I would never leave the phone in a parked car to avoid tempting thieves.
The sun beating down on the phone through the windshield is not going to be offset by the Jag's AC and if you're already running a high load app like Waze it's that much worse. I've had it happen. Plus the glare tends to wash out a phone's screen.
Not for me.
