Default 04 how is cruise controll supposed to work.

Hello,
I just got this car and working though the bugs. I am trying to figure out how to turn on the cruise controll. I have the style with black buttons to the right of the steering wheel. (No thumb wheel). But I don't have an on or off on the back side f the switch assembly.
I no longer have a transmission fault. And I don't have a cruise controll not avalible message.
I'm assuming it was standard but just won't turn on?
Thanks in advanced.
Fortytwo.

You can check the option by trim here

Fortytwo, if you look on the right side of the steering wheel, you should see a rocker switch behind the spoke of the wheel. If you press the top part of it, you should see a green (maybe yellow) light appear on the dash that looks like a speedo. ONce you get that, then you can press the SET button on the front of the steering wheel to engage the cruise control. If you hit the rocker switch bottom, that will kill the cruise control completely. If you hit CANCEL on the steering wheel, it will turn off the cruise from controlling speed, but your previous set speed is still in memory and if you hit RESUME, the car will go back to that speed. Tapping the brakes will also act just like CANCEL in that the cruise is still enabled and if you hit RESUME, the car will return to the previous speed.

Thermo,
I checked and I do not have buttons on the back of the spoke or the black button assembly. I have the style with four buttons on a black plastic peice bolted to the right lower of the inside wheel.

Anyone familure with the style Without an on off switch on the back?

Any chance the Owner's Manual is still in glove box? If not you can prolly call one up on the internet. I've got a 2004 also but it's got the thumbwheels on steering wheel; have to say it's much easier to use. Just roll up or down and speed is set.

Are the bumper inserts body colour? If so, it is a sport but would need to be a sport premium. In the UK a log book shows which trim it is but not sure how it works in the USA

Fortytwo.

I have an 2004 X-type as well and so far I think that is the check engine light is on for any reason the cruise control is shut off. Also, its possiable that the only lights to let you know that the cruise control is in fact on and is set will be in the message center not on the dash. And there is no on or off toggle on the back. the on is the same as resume.

The cruise control on the later cars without the separate on/off switch is activated simply by taking the car to the desired speed and rotating the switch up or down (very slightly).
