Default engine light on and more

2002 Jag X-Type 2.5, 150,250 miles. Check engine light on, Check engine light flashes, No cruise available, orange/amber light on. I have had a ongoing problem trying to fix this. I have replaced all 6 ignition coils and spark plugs, both upstream and downstream oxygen/ air/fuel sensors on both side of motor total of all 4. These on the previous codes triggered. Now i have 6 new codes as follows: P-0304, P-0354, P-0420, P-1111, P-1314, P-1316. I have researched all the codes and know what they are. But i'm thinking there might be a common denominator that is setting all these off. I know the codes P-0304 & 0354 are stating a misfire and a bad coil but they were all just replaced less then 2,000 miles ago. The car runs fine when just the engine light is on. Both around town and at highway speeds. Every now and then the no cruise control light comes on the engine light flashes and the amber/orange light comes on and the car will not **** out of gear above 3000RPM, but will **** if you go thru the gears slowly, It does run a little ruff at this time also, Sometimes the no cruise light available is on when you start the car, sometimes its not, sometimes it comes on around town going slower, sometimes it does not, some times it comes on at highway speeds and sometimes it does not. Like i previously stated i think that it is one thing that is the majority of the problem. If it was a bad coil or misfiring i feel it would do it every time you start and run the car. sometimes it happens when its 80 degrees out and sometimes when it is 30 degrees out this problem has been going on for the past 3 months now.
Thanks in advance if any body else who has had or has fixed the problem. I'm at my wits end.

Stuart, from what you are describing, you ahve a bad coil. Yes, the coils may be brand new, but that doesn't mean that they can't be bad. If you are questioning this, swap the #4 (front, middle coil) with the #2 coil (just behind the passenger side headlight). If your problem continues but you are now getting the P0302 and P0352 codes, then this would confirm a bad coil. Then, since #2 coil is easily accessible (no need to remove anything), the replacement is really easy. If the problem continues on #4, then you are most likely looking at a bad wire going to #4 cylinder.

Well i switched out the # 4 coil and spark plug with new ones. Reset and cleared all the codes. Took it for a test drive and started the same thing again cruise not available, orange light on, service light on & starts flashing at 35MPH. Will not shift above 3000RPM if i do not take my foot off of gas pedal. Got back to garage and hooked scanner to it now it is setting only one code that is P-0354, Coil -D primary/secondary circuit malfunction. Does any body have this same problem and if so how did you fix it ????
Thanks

Stuart, sounding like you have a wiring issue with the #4 cylinder. I would be checking the wiring for any signs of damage and then taking things from there. I would also look at the plug going to the coil and seeing if all the pins are out where they should be and in good condition (ie, shiny silver in appearance).

Jeramia, scroll to the top of the page. If you look a few inches from the top, you will see a black line where the left side starts with "User CP" (aka, User Control Panel). You get in there, you will have a large selection of options on the left side of what you can set up. Inside there you can set your signature line. If you need more detailed info, let me know and I will give you a step by step of what you need to do.

Well, that's just the sh*ts!

If this was an S-type, the first thing to suspect would be the battery. Not sure if the X-types are equally fussy.

Thing is it needs fixing URGENTLY. If you're not going to DIY immediately then find someone competent to fix it.

Already been in there Thermo. Couldn't find anything concerning car details, (Model, mileage, etc). Just personal profile details.

Well an update as of yesterday morning. I only had the one code when i shut the car off P-0354. Checked the # 4 ignition coil connectors and traced wire back into harness and all looked o.k., Went to restart to see if there was any thing different with the codes and it set 11 more codes, P-0301, 0302,0304, 0354,0420 etc, etc, they seemed all to be ignition related and misfire codes. after running for about 20 second the engine stalled out ( which has never happened before through this hole dilemma). Tried to restart it and now all it does is crank over, but will not start. It does not even sound like it wants to start. Battery is fully charged, starter is spinning, engine is cranking but not starting…. Any ideas now ????
