Default hesitation low rpm, high torque load

My old man special ordered his x-type from england. 5 speed stick,3.0 motor with all the bells and whistles. It has everything except the sport package. He never was the kind to take it in for service soi have been doing all thework to it. 3000 mile oil changes, air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter...the basics. Its 100% stock. 150,000 miles (all highway)

Anyway, under normal driving it is a perfect jag all through the rpms. Once you open the taps, at low rpm it doesnt like it.at around 2800 it begins to smooth out but at 3000 the headlights dim and you can feel the smallest of studders. The hesitation at low rpm feels as though it isonly running on half the motor. Any suggestions on where to start? I'm leaning towards an electrical problem starting at the battery or alternatorsince the headlights dim. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This is the first majorproblem we have had with it -- EVER! Great car Jaguar!

Could be an aging fuel pump drawing extra curent as the ECM ups the voltage
to it to increase fuel pressue under higer load??? Just a guess on my part.
If you can run with a scan tool hooked up you can monitor your system
voltage.

I don't know if it applies to your old man's car (you should include all details about the car, including theyear, etc)..But it may need a firmware update..ask the dealer in your area and see (by VIN) if this one needs an ECM reflash...Mine did and performance was spot on afterwards.

Battery sounds like a good place to start.

Ifyou look at the signature of my posts, it says 02 x-type.But it is a 2002... 150,000 miles stick,3.0 V6, bone stock, Babied all its life. Garaged all its life. i did have the intake manifold off to change the rear plugs but it was hesitating before that - - not as bad. i changed the "o-rings" to the intake ports too. Also, there is a breather line that split from the intake manifold to the airbox. i replaced it with rubber hosing which seemed to help it but it nowhas gotten worse.

My bad...I guess I was blinded by the fact, LIKE ME, you have/had a freakin LR..and that anybody, but people like you and me would be actually into another British car..

So I think it might need the reflash then..check it out with a dealer.

Is this what you refer to pilot?
https://www.jaguarforums.com/m_85477/tm.htm

My limited knowledge with the lights dimming ewtc would lead me to probably the alternator / battery to, but there are much more knowledgable guys on this site who will be able to help soon I'm sure.

Good luck

Jim

Good news, took it to Advanced Auto Parts and had them do a battery test. Turns out it was bad and I replaced it. Runs like a top! Stock battery lasted 7 years. Bad news, Those batterys set you back 150 bucks. But better than the alternator or fuel pump right?

Thanks for the help everyone.

I've got a '74 TR6 I'm working on. Electrical was not a strength for British Letland!
