need help- with hole on TC
Hi to all. I will need to repleace my oil pan gasket (small drops). I read one post about how they did that by making a hole through the transfer case corner to reach the hidden bolt, I didn't get it. Does anyone have any pictures of that hole, where it is exactly,, and what it looks like. Please help me, that is my biggest problem because I don't think to destroy thebottom of my car because of a gasket $35). Thanks tuff guys
I just did my oil pan gasket, and considered drilling the hole.
When I was under the car, and looking at it. I just decided that there was no real time or effort advantage to this.
I have had my transfer case out a couple of times and it is no big deal once you have a little experience.
There is a big advantage to removing the T-case, as you get to do a proper complete oil change while it is out.
Even my Jag mechanic friend says that the hole drilling is just way too "hacker" a thing to do. There are limits to reasonable shortcuts.

THANKS
front suspension apart, 30 mins, pull RF driveshaft CAREFULLY.. give yourself 30 mins to do this.
exhaust down... hard to say.. get new clamps and you can cut the old ones.. trying to undo rusty exhaust bolts can take days... years..... I say at home this is an hour, much less at a shop
undo various bolts, driveshaft and various brackets - 30-60 mins..
Now there are two ******* bolts (on the heat sheild/anti roll bracket) that you might never get off at home, and they can be an hour each if you cant quite get the exact combination of wobble sockets and wobble extensions. my car they are gone... cant blame the previous mechanic.
undo the catalytic converter rusty bracket bolts.... give yourself an hour. they suck, but they are doable.
then the tcase has four easy big bolts and it come out.
going together is much quicker, probably 4 hours total to get everything back and ready to roll.
I take a lot of time cleaning everything up as best as I can... some think i am wasting my time.
oil pan is straight forward.... although there is a bracket on the front side to the front catalytic converter that will be quite rusted.
does that help

does that help
holing the trans case will meen you buy a core if it ever has to be replaced. it does save alot of time. But I know of people fired for doing it. I use a gm distributor wrench ground, heated, bent to get around the loosened, not removed TC and get that bolt out in the corner. I then cut an 3/8" off the end, grind the head down and slot it for a flat screw driver to go back in. You stick it in place with a telescoping magnet and screw in with the screw driver and tighten again with the dist. wrench. The latest and gratest trick around here is to use a long bit carbide cutter to grind away the bolt head, remove the pan and replace the bolt. Take your pick, now you know some more "tricks" that aren't hack jobs
