Just bought me a jag from a private seller, I bought it knowing that the fans from the radiator turn on without the car even starting or without the ac even starting , could this be a bad thermostat , anyone know? Car never overheats and everything else works amazing but the fan is loud and it turns on before the car is turned on just with me turning the key just enough so the electricals are switched on .

MPonce, sounds like your fan controller has died and it is simply stuck in the "ON" condition. Unfortunately, this will probably mean getting a new fan/fan controller module. You can find them on e-bay for around $200. Replacement is pretty straight forward. The only other potential problem is that your fan controller wire between the ECU and the fan controller has been damaged and has crossed itself with a switchable 12 VDC signal. That would cause your fans to run like they are. But, this will only be able to be found by doing a hand over hand of the wiring harness. If you want some things to check with a multimeter, let me know and I will step you through it.

Because you don't mention the temp gauge reading pegged high, your thermostat and temp switch should be good. So, no need to worry about that.

Welcome to the club and enjoy. Hope to hear about all your happiness with the new car.

yes that is what one specialist told me at the place called "The Collection" which i see you guys have advertised here , he told me its either the thermostat or the fan and module thats broken and that it would cost me 600 for thermostat buy/replaced or 1400 for fan&module buy/replaced. I want to fix this asap as the sound of the fans is annoying and shouldnt be on at all times.

MPounce, yes, that is the fan assembly, but what you truely need is the fan controller. That would be located in the upper left corner of the fan assembly in the picture. From the looks of things, that doesn't have it. Sounds like someone bought a complete fan assembly, ripped the controller off to fix a vehicle and is now looking to make a few bucks back on selling the fans only. I would atleast write to the seller and ask them if it comes with the controller. If they say it does, then buy it because that is at one hell of a price. But, if they say it doesn't, installing that part is not going to fix your problem. Your problem lies in the controller itself more than likely. The controller is a known "weak link" for this vehicle and if you are going to have an issue, this is one of the common things (next to lower rear control arms and transfer cases).

I think I found the issue , Im guessing this is the module you were talking about thermo, and Im guessing that green wire that is there was cut and shouldnt be cut? could that be over riding the system and making the fan go automatic and always on? how can I fix this? or maybe a sensor was messed up and they cut the wire on purpose to bypass the sensor ? Im just assuming and guessing here , any advice? Here is the picture of what I think is the module by the fan assembly with the cut green wire.

MPonce, that green wire that you show being cut goes to the right hand fan. With that cut, you should not be seeing both fans running. IT is possible the temp control module isn't seeing it in the circuit and is going into a protective mode.

The speed control wire is the white/blue wire that runs to that module.

I would try connecting up that green wire and seeing what things do at that point. I would be curious where the other end of that wire went to. If someone has wired it in somewhere else, I would be placing money that the control module is toast. Some more looking will be needed.

the green wire is connected to some metal alarm looking device which has another wire running into the fans somewhere , I think they did a direct connection and bypassed the module , so weird wow.

MPonce, if the one half of the controller died, it would not surprise me if someone wired it up that way to keep the fan operational. Like I mentioned before, the controller (silver box you are seeing) is known for failing and is a tough item to get at a decent price. A lot of member have been forced to buy the whole fan shroud/controller assembly.
