IMHO...I feel it maybe an engine MAIN shaft seal that has begun leaking...Is there any noise that sounds like something is rubbing or grinding..If not, It may not be the Torque converter as you've been told..

If it was a main shaft seal would they have to drop the engine to determine that?
No you dont have to pull the engine. They should be able to throw it up on a lift and look. If it's oil leaking near the engine meets the tranny, then it's the main seal. You shouldn't have to pull the engine, but the tranny will have to come out. That's $1000 of labor, as the subframe has to be dropped. Quite a PITA on the X.

The trans fluid in the X-type is very obviously red. You would know for sure if it was trans fluid. I would go to different dealer in future because you do not need to take trans out for any diagnosis if you know what you are doing.
As stated above, probably main seal failure. $1000.00 labour for a $20 part is rough, but cheaper than new car, engine or trans.

No, 4 years 50k.
Emission stuff is 8 year 80k. Emissions stuff is considered only the ECM and the Catalytic convertors. But still, getting a cat or ecm covered saves alot of money.

Go for it..I have found that if you have a pleasant attitude and ask nicely for their help, and that since you are so close still to your warranty period that they usually will take care of this kind of problem for you...

I wish you luck..

can you ask to see the bolts that are backed out? I am amazed. If the bolts from the flex plate to the torque convertor backed out, they would have made a terrible racket at some point. If they can put the car on the lift, and remove the access cover, you could snap a picture and post it here for us to see.
I dont know exactly how much you can see up behind the flex plate, but with a flashlight you should be able to see where the oil is dripping from.
Yeah really..that's what I asked a few posts back..It has to be making a hell of a noise or did..
