Default Tranny fluid leak?

So I was doing an oil change and I noticed tranny fluid on the drain plug. I wiped it off and went for a drive, put the car back on the lift and noticed fluid leaking from the seal in-between the trans and transfer case.

Anyone dealt with this? If yeah, what is the gasket called? A local mechanic said I might have to rebuild the trans if I remove that seal. I think hes trying to get more money out of me. So the question is, what route do I take? Take-in to consideration I want to keep the car.

It's a 3.0 automatic

The seal is a thin 'O'ring (C2S5132). It is on a flange that is part of the transfer case so the CV axle shafts need to be removed and the splined shaft displaced to move the transfer case from the gearbox. The 'O'ring seal will leak red ATF when it fails.

You might get away with pulling the transfer case and shaft just far enough to change the 'O'ring.

Bob, thanks a lot. I'll get on that right away. Dealer was trying to charge 200$ just check the fluid level.
