Default "Whine" Noise

So recently I have noticed an increase in what I think is the supercharger "whine" noise. Noticeable in cabin as I start to accelerate from a stop at low rpms. Its' become louder over the last month. Should I be concerned about a possible issue or am I just "lucky" that the car decided to turn up the whine noise.

Can you confirm it sounds like it's coming from the front? I noticed i started having a whine noise at low speeds up until about 50km/h. Sound increased as my speed increased but went away past 60km/h. Even then, the sound at low speeds was very minimal but still noticable with no music on and windows up.

At first i thought it was my supercharger but it sounded more like it was coming from a lower point and more towards the middle/rear. Turns out my rear differential was leaking and upon opening it up the dealer claimed the diff had failed completely. Replaced under warranty since it was not a driver error, i have 70,000 km on xfr-s.

SC wine should not really increase over time, unless you've done something to make it increase like removing sound abatement material. You can't really check the SC's oil level with it on the engine, but you might want to check the SC pulley play against what Eaton recommends.

Some additional information.

The whine is much more pronounced when accelerating from a complete stop. It gets louder as the car picks up speed and the RPMs increase. So loud that you can hear it over the radio and AC running.

The whine is also present at idle while car is in park. Revving the engine causes the whine to be come more pronounced. Popped the hood and you can hear the whine coming from the engine block just under the engine cover. Car is going into the shop first thing AM.

Just trying to get ideas on possibles before I take it into the shop.

If the whining gets louder when revving the car in park, that's not normal. The SC in under no load and in Park is commanded by the ECM to bleed off all boost. My SC needed new bearings before 50kmi. and was rebuild by the dealer I bought it from, by an Eaton authorized shop. It really sounds like you have a bearing issue. Google "SC with bad bearings" to see if yours sounds like any there.

Yeah, there should definitely be no supercharger whine at idle.

I can't hear the video where I'm at right now but the only other thing I can think of that would whine is the alternator.

Yep that does sound bad.
No way is that "normal" (but maybe enhanced) SC whine, it sounds more to me like a bad bearing.
Could be alternator bearing, SC bearing, who knows.

The shop is replacing the drive belt tensioner and both idler pulleys.

Should I have anything else done while they are working the above replacement parts?

I've never even touched one of these cars and it's the first thing I would have guessed... Whenever anyone says that they are hearing a shreek, whine or hum with the conditions you've described,,,, I say jam your head in there around the belts and let someone lightly mess around with the accelerator....

Check your power steering fluid level, sounds like you’re low on power steering fluid.

Little late for the original poster/

You can pull the SC belt with no ill effects and check to see if the whine goes away. Quick diagnosis for pulleys and SC

THIS!! There's a few harmonics there but the main pitch of the whine is definitely the same as I remember mine when the Power Steering needed bleeding - based on pitch = pulley size I'd definitely check the power steering level/pump

Perfect pitch - it's a curse
