I recently had two lug studs shear off while mounting and tightening a wheel. Given the failure, I’ve decided it’s safest to replace the entire set on that hub to prevent further issues.
Could anyone advise on the following:
Specifications: What are the exact dimensions or thread pitch required
Sourcing: Are there preferred brands (like ARP for strength or OEM for fitment) and reliable retailers you recommend?
Frequency: Is this a known weak point for this vehicle, or does it typically point to a previous technician over-torquing them?
Any tips on the easiest way to install the new ones myself without a shop would also be greatly appreciated.
Great timing as this was just figured out by another forum member. It seems JLR has stopped listing the wheel studs separately a long time ago. They only sell the entire hub. BUT Wombat looked and way back in the X-Type era JLR did sell them separately!
As always I replace those terrible sheet metal lug nuts with the solid versions. But that will be your choice!
Some can pound out the old stud and install the new without removing the hub. But for me at least on my old 2005 S-Type I removed the hub and used my press. Simple and no damage to either part.

C2S50885 (stud) are available for @$5 each. I'm guessing you will need the nut too. In my opinion, the studs will only break if the have been repeatedly over torqued (or in my case because I cross threaded one due to to much gin!)
You can get them from Amazon, or eBay etc with free shipping.
One more thought. Given that the stud was used on the X-Type, there must also be a Ford part#. I'm guessing that the Ford part will cost cents, not bucks.

Actually, I'm wrong! They are about the same price!
There is no way to remove the studs without taking off the hub first. The rust is so severe that the studs look like they're welded on. At this point, it's probably better to just replace the entire hub.
