I asked my mechanic, while my 2013 XJL Portfolio was hooked into the OBD, to enable the daytime running lights. Nothing happened! When the vehicle is in Drive, should not the LEDs underneath the headlights automatically turn on?
On 2013 DRL should turn on both the LED strip and the low-beam headlights. That is because the LEDs are jot bright enough to qualify as DRLs. And if the dealer turned them on they should be on anytime the car is running. There is a hack to just turn on the LEDs and I've attached it.
Thanks XJsss, I already looked at the hack and decided I did not want to mess with the car's electrical system, even for a relatively simple hack like this.
Since the Jaguar mechanic was already in the OBD I decided to go the DRL route; besides, I sometimes venture into Canada and need them on anyway. I'll have them take another look. Thanks!
As you, I do not like to cut up my cars. The only mods I have electrically are wiring in the Valentine 1 and trhe dash cams. The Valaentine was done by the tech at the dealership and the dash cams were done by the only dealer authorized installer of addons by the dealership.
Ah yes, I was admiring your nice integration of these components that you’d posted in another thread. That’s the only way I’d consider doing something like this—if it was done by a pro. I’m two left thumbs and, um, electrically-challenged, shall we say.
Time for a mea culpa. Apparently the headlights have to be in any other position besides ”OFF” for the daytime running lights to work. They work just fine now.

If you turn the light stalk to side lights only the DRLs and rear tail lights will come on in the day time . Well that's what I have been doing on my 63 reg XJ so I hope that helps you with that ?

So if the dealer enables the DRLs, you get LEDs and headlights together. But what do the rear lights do? Do they stay off unless you turn on the lights?

Hey man, do you have any examples of your videos from the dashcams? What brand did you get and what did the dealer charge you to install? I've spent hours on Amazon looking at different ones but they all look Chinese and not very good quality. Also what's the Valentine1 thing?

Anyone got a picture of what daytime running lights should look like?
The dash cam is by Blackvue DR650-2CH and I purchased it @ the dash cam store https://www.thedashcamstore.com/ . There are newer models and the top of the line is DR900S-2CH. The installer charged me $250 but that was 6 years ago. The imagery on mine is very good, but the newer models are up to 4K. My unit is very dependable except I have replaced the Micro SD card with Lexar High-Performance 633X 128GB MicroSDXC UHS-I Card. ($16.49 on amazon). The newer models will support up to 256GB. It is imperative that the micro be an "XC" type. The Valentine1 ( Radar and Laser Detectors | Valentine One | Radar Detectors) is IMHO the best radar/laser detector. I've had them for many years (I do get them updated) and never had a speeding ticket and I do not drive slow.
"Daylight Running Lamps" on US-model XJ's is a software option enabled by the dealer. This option mimics setting the headlamp switch on the stalk to "ON" at all times while the car is running. Headlamps, LED accent lamps, side marker and tail lamps are all illuminated. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...emblys-224928/
