One big headache later....
Replaced bank 2 catalytic converter...PROBLEM SOLVED 🤗 engine light left, power restored!!!!
BTW...don’t be stupid like me. I did a couple coolant flushes and put the wrong coolant bank in each time. Dexcool orange is what’s recommended....no more over heating issues.
I plan to have my car in the shop on Tuesday for a couple small things (sway bar bushings, trans mount). Will have the cats looked at while she’s up in the air. Perhaps my similar issues are also because of the cat (I’ve done everything else). Thanks for the feedback.
A lot of the work I did myself. My injectors wasn’t bad at all I’m sure the Bg44k cleaned them up but since I had them out I went ahead and replaced them. I would honestly say a total of about $1,500 in parts. Injectors were $90 each. The ignition coils and spark plugs I got for $250 all together. Camshaft sensors a few hundred. That was all done during the process of me thinking it was the issues. Some people were being too technical on the forum with what I should be doing. Then, I took my own advice and replaced the bank 2 cat. I first used a thermo gun and seen that the temp was 500 degrees or so at the front of the cat on the neck. Then I checked the rear of it and it was reading around 280 degrees. I had o2 codes and replaced them already. Code still existed and so I went and replaced my cat because of the temps were reading that it was pretty much clogged and all the power came back. The CEL went off and she drives like a beast now.
Also, she’s a 2011 XJL 5.0 and I’ve never had to do my timing chain by the grace of god. Other work I got done was valve cover gaskets, transmission service, water pump, replaced both water jacket pipes under and behind the intake, thermostat, pulley, radiator, fan, and purge valve on the driver side engine. I didn’t have any issues out of these replacements I just did it to kind of prolong her. Navy Blue with Navy Blue interior with white piping
Awesome. May I ask why you did the purge valve previously? My understanding is our XJs have it inside and you have to pull the valve covers to get to it. Did you replace to fix a problem you were having? Just wondering what PCV life is/should be.
Man if you did all that yourself you need to post on here a LOT more!
We sure would love to see your repairs in detail and it will help others with their repair.

This is the purge valve I’m describing. It’s the plastic line that runs on top of the intake and connects on top front of it. It has a valve on it that was stopped up. I started to smell fuel and had bad mileage. I can’t remember the code but it said purge valve.
I think this is a very important post, as I don't recall ever reading in these XJ forums a bad cat causing misfires (though it totally makes sense). Usually it's the other way around. Your test of measuring the cat temps is very simple and should be included as an early test for anyone with similar issues (including myself). Thanks again for your posts.
