Default Third part warranty plans

Hey guys, can anyone recommend a solid third party warranty company? Dealer has given me a week to think it over before I buy. I have only bought one third party warranty for a Cadillac I had and was very unhappy with them,, didn't seem to cover anything.

Howdy!

Prior to simply buying a Jaguar CPO '17 XF, I considered a '12 XJ 5.0.
Absolutely loved the engine but with 65k miles all repairs would be on me.

When getting Quotes from Apex & Endurance, et al, the reviews from their customers scared me off.

Almost anything that failed was deemed a pre-existing condition" and simply not covered. WTH?

Ended up with a gently used black Jag that is still under the factory 5year and am additional 2 from CPO.

Your mileage may vary. Good luck.

Here's the advice of consumer advocate Clark Howard:
https://clark.com/cars/extended-car-warranty/

"Never buy an extended auto warranty from a third party. Stick to the manufacturer’s own warranty only."

having been a victim of a third-party warranty in the past I would not recommend it unless it is free. I had one from xerox I believe and when my air conditioning compressor went out they would only pay for a remanufactured compressor and use the excuse that since the The original compressor that failed was used then a remanufactured compressor was sufficient. I thought that was bullshit and then the warranty company also refused to pay for various items such as shop supplies that the mechanic used in replacing the compressor. After arguing till I was blue in the face I got nowhereAnd I will never recommend a third-party warranty to anybody

The economics are simple, just like any other business; third-party extended service contracts are designed and written to make a profit. It's just like going to a casino in Vegas - the House always wins in the long run. The same is true for extended service contract companies; they're professionals and have been in business for years. They have all the statistical data, know the odds, and understand how to price their products to be profitable. They're not a charity that wants to help you; they're a ruthless industry that wants to help themselves to your money. Just read all the complaints on the internet.

The bottom line is that buying an extended service contract is a gamble. If buying one helps you sleep better at night, there's a price for that. Even if you get lucky like Randy Mounts, that's part of the equation. Remember that the House always wins, although they do allow an occasional player to win to keep all the other marks in the game.

Stuart's reply is pretty sound. I had one through TWS. It paid for essentially new suspension components and alignments over the course of the last year, as well as motor mounts. Parts and labor easily paid out more than I paid for it. They cover broken bushings and Jaguar's only instructions are to replace rather than repair. I took a calculated bet knowing that this was formerly a dry heat car that was fairly well taken care of.

I had 1 year left on the contract and just cancelled it for a prorated refund as I do not anticipate being able to use it on anything else minor. So, if I calculate it I'd estimate I'm $2-3k above board. It stipulates major issues that would result in total loss aren't paid out, so I feel I'm in the clear at this point.
