Default XJ Locking/alarm issue

Usually when I exit the XJ I’ll hit the button on the outside handle to lock the car. Lately when I do this I hear some locking going on but the mirrors do not fold in and after a couple of seconds I get 2 beeps (I also noted that the security light in the right side of the instrument cluster is flashing red as it would normally do when the alarm is set). I then push the handle button again and the mirrors fold in and the XJ is locked. If I then do an unlock by either pulling a door handle using the button on the smartkey it unlocks as usual. If I then do a lock function the system operates normally and on the first input the doors lock and the mirrors fold in. If I let the car sit for a minute then the dysfunctionality returns. Also if I leave the XJ unlocked in the garage when I go back out with a passenger they cannot open the door as it has locked. I’ve tried all different settings from the menu like single lock all and 2 unlock (driver door and then other doors) and done a hard reset by disconnecting the battery for over 5 minutes. This started when I took the XJ in the first time for switch replacement of all the switches for the sticky problem. I’m not sure but I do think my tech checked SSD settings the first time, but it may be just a coincidence. To me it seems like the locking system is configured out of sync. Any help would be appreciated.

Typically this is caused by one of the lock actuators not working properly and therefore not locking that door. The double beep is its way of telling you something didn't lock. It's often intermittent so if you try a second time it might lock. Over time it will become every time

One way to test - when you lock and get the double beep move the key well away from the car and try to open each door in turn. They should be locked but likely you will find one that isn't
If that's the case the lock mechanism / actuator needs replacing in that door

Robert,

I get the double beep whenever I exit my XJ and immediately press the button on the handle, but when I wait a couple of seconds and press that button again it locks and the mirrors fold in. I thought I was just pressing that button too soon, and thought that was normal until I read your post. I never leave my car unlocked, so I don't know if it automatically locks like yours does.

BritCars' test is a good idea, and I'll give it a try to see if I have any doors that aren't locked after the double beep.

Stuart

Thanks guys tried Stuarts suggestion and the drivers door was not locking. I'll make an appt. at the dealer to replace the necessary parts.

Default Door Locking

I own a 2015 Jaguar XF 3.0 SC and was experiencing the same problem as OP with hearing two beeps after locking car.

At first this was an intermittent problem which after a week or so the problem became constant.

I tried many solutions that were posted all over the Internet but none worked.

I finally brought the car to dealer who diagnosed the problem as being a defective left front door lock motor. They had the parts in stock and I waited for a little over two hours while they did the job. I believe that they needed to remove inside door panel and I think that they also needed to remove the glass from window.

My problem was resolved and I have since driven the car for over one week and no more extra beeps. So remember that the two beeps after locking the car does not necessarily mean that something is not locked or ajar. In my case it turned out to be a defective door lock motor.

Following up to my post #3, I had no double beeps today while I was out and about. I made a conscious effort to not push the lock button as soon as I closed the door. Problem solved.

Good things come to those who wait.

I've got a similar issue popping up now. No occurrences at all for the first few weeks of ownership, but now at least 50% of the time when I press the handle buttons to lock the car, I got a loud double-beep. It doesn't matter which door handle I press. It doesn't matter how long I wait to press the button. I tried the test above, but none of the doors lock at all when I get the double-beep. There is no sound of motors trying to lock, just an immediate double-beep. However, the car will always lock properly every time when using the fob, no matter what.

I will try the battery disconnect and report back, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

Try waiting a few seconds after you exit the car before pushing the door handle lock button. Also, see if it makes any difference if you take the smartkey out of your pocket and hold it in one hand while you press the lock button on the door handle with the other hand. I've noticed that sometimes my driver's door won't open on the first pull; I suspect the signal may be blocked when my key is in the same pocket as my cellphone.

I tried a hard reset last night but that did nothing.

Stuart, thanks for your advice. I did notice that if I wait a few extra seconds for the screens to die down fully before pressing the button, it works fine. I'll keep testing that.

It's just odd that it never happened during the first two or three weeks of ownership. I don't think I'm getting out of the car faster than before.

Well, waiting a few extra seconds doesn't work either. It seems to be completely random.

On a hunch, I tried using the spare key but no joy there either.

Could it have something do with batteries being low perhaps?

Well, I decided to install new batteries in my fobs. We'll see how that goes.

I've noticed that when I keep the fob in my coat pocket instead of the little "lipstick" pocket of my trousers, the car locks perfectly every time so far. It's an odd little trend, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Sounds like, maybe, your pants have some metallic thread to counter rfid signals, or it depends on there you put your lipstick.

After keeping my fob in my coat pocket instead of my front pants pocket, I can confirm that I only got one mislock during the entire weekend, which was full of ingress and egress. Very strange

I've had it with this nonsense. Booked for service next Thursday. CPO Warranty better cover this. I'll report back with their diagnosis.

You know, it wouldn't be so bad if that stupid double-beep wasn't so darn loud and embarrassing.

I guess I should update that I didn't end up going to the dealer. I decided to heed some good advise from Stuart further up this thread and decided to count to 5 each time before I press the button. And guess what, I haven't heard a mislock beep in over a week. It is a little annoying to have to wait and count to 5 each time, but its better than that horrible double beep. First world problems.

Today, just for fun, I decided to not wait the 5 seconds anymore and see what happened. So far so good. Regardless, now I know specifically how to defeat the mislock. Thanks, Stuart.

I had been experiencing the same problem with my front left door. Over a week ago I came home from the grocery store and accidentally let the door shut. It slammed pretty hard - I had a 12 pack of beer in one hand and a large brisket in the other. I hit the button on the fob, the door locked and the mirrors folded in. Go figure!!!

Let's see now, on the one hand we have a $100,000 car in the other hand a 12 pack and a brisket. Yeah, you made the right choice.

I never had a problem locking with the fob, just the door handle button.

Over the past few days Ive decided to try my luck and not wait the 5 seconds, just hit the button as soon as I naturally would before. And guess what...not a single mislock yet. Somehow a week of counting to 5 before pressing the button must have reset something. I'm stumped and can offer no explanation, but I am very pleased!
